What is difficulties about this
Im 25 and was born w/o a thyroid...I also was born in england and I am also on levothyroxine...I have had a perfectly healthy normal life...unless i dont take my medication...I have 2 children aged 5 and 11mth who have been totally unaffected! xxx
hiya! im jade and guess wot!!! i was born without a thyroid too! but i take levothyroxine! im really dont no wot synthroid is! is it an american thang coz ive never heard of it in england! my email is t r e k k i e 9 1 @ h o t m a i l . c o . u k. we're more or less the same age so i wanna talk about how you cope with it and everything!!!
I had the same problem as your son. I'm 20 now, but at his age I couldn't talk for a long time, or walk, or get potty trained wasn't having much development at all. I was put in a program with mentally challenged and autistic kids (neither of which I am). However, I obviously have since grasped speech, and am now ahead of the curve. It doesn't have to dominate his life- I got into a very good college, and eventually everything worked out. It took a long time to potty train me though- until I was 5.
I am 20, and was born without a thyroid gland. Because we are unsure of my father's identity (I was also artificially inseminated) we aren't sure of my full genetics, but mom mom was recently diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer. Maybe I'm unusual the, because my TSH is frequently high- for the last 6-9 months it has been at 22.54, about 5 times higher than it should be. It causes a lot of problems, sensitivity to cold, tremendous weight gain (30lb in just a few months). Lots of headaches and fatigue. Chest pain and frequent shortness of breath. It's good to find others born without one too, though.
if this thyroid med is throwing you out of wack i could just imagine what my 17 month old son is going through.he takes .50 mcg a day ,he ust to take twice the med but he never slept so they lowered his dose.did u have any delay in your speech and development when you were little,my son is really delayed in everything he dosent walk yet or even say mama or dada which is really worring me.
before your baby leaves the hospital they take blood from their heel which comes back a about a week later
Who would've thought such a little gland could be such a hassle for so many people? I'm new to the forum so basics; I was born in 1982 w/o a thyroid gland. Nadder. Not a thing, and diagnosed at six weeks after a heal-***** test. From then, I have taken thyroid hormone (replacement?) tablets, platue-ing at 150mcg per day.
But where my life is at the moment, I find it hard to regulate my sleep patterns and medication at the same time. As soon as I wake up, I take my meds but it then throws everything out of whack and I'm not able to get back into a rhythm. Does this affect others?

Tell me you live a normal life, because that is what we all want to hear. I have thoughts and questions, and I think you could shed light on the subject.
Just curious, how does not find out that their child was born without a thyroid?
