My daughter's pain

My daughter is now 12 years old.  She has always had a leaking problem with her bladder from potty training on.  She gets sudden urges and often does not make it without leakage. She was a premie so I don't know if that has anything to do with her development.  She often complains of lower back pain where her kidneys are.  I am not sure if it is spinal or muscular or kidney.  We have not had any insurance for quite a few years.  I took her to her pediatrician when she was entering kindergarten and because it was mentioned that she had bladder leakage our insurance carrier at that time put a restriction of coverage against anything with her urinary system.  I want to find out what is wrong but will have no way to pay for treatment.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thank you.

Hi,
Based on what you have posted, you daughter experienced this "leaking episodes" since she was two years of age 9 is this correct)?

Was any baseline scan done? An abdominal CT scan or ultrasound done during the onset of her symptoms?

Was there any associated fever, nausea, vomiting or rash when this first happened or in any instance afterwards?

With a significant history of having been born prematurely, I do feel that her birth history may be contributing to her current condition. An underlying infection and an underlying structural cause have to be ruled out. I suggest that a baseline abdominal scan be done to visualize the kidney, ureter and bladder. A urinalysis with urine culture may also be done to help rule out an infection.

Is there any way that you can discuss your daughter’s situation with your primary physician so she may be guided accordingly (especially with the insurance issues)? I believe she needs further evaluation.
