colon resection post op care

My mom is 71 and will undergo a colon resection.  I am extremely concern about waht to expect during post operative care.  Please help!

Hi.  I am 11 weeks post op from lapro colon resection.  My question is how long were you in pain?  I am still having pain (not horrible, but there..) soreness, crampy type of pain.  I go back and see the surgeon this month but he did not seem concerned when I was there last time.  He said that it will be about 3-6 months before " you forget you had surgery", but I am still not sure.  I am not running a fever nor vomiting ( which is what he said he would be concerned about).  I am still taking the pain meds ( about 1-2 per day, depending.....) any feedback is appreciated.  Thanks.

Four years ago I underwent a total colectomy for torrential diverticular bleeding.  Last August I exxhanged postings with another parient who was contemplating a similar operation and I described my experience.  Perhaps if I direct you to these postings, the backwards and forwards postings will give you the information you seek...?

Try the following:-

- in the top right hand corner of the G.I. page you will find a "search medhelp" window.
- in this space type:-   mifegr colostomy surgery
- then look at the posting at the bottom of this list which starts "I have no peristaltic....." and click on it
- then read through all the postings (there are quite a lot)
- specifically you will see a posting quite far down the list dated 15 August 2007 at 0338 pm which described my own experience of the total colectomy operation.
