Reaction from vaccine given

My new doctor carelessly gave me a pneumonia vaccination( PPV) too early following one given 2 years earlier. He did not check my records or ask me if I had the shot before. CDC says 3 years minimum time between shots.

I had a terrible reaction as the old shot seemed to be fighting off the new one: severe total arm redness and arm swelling twice the normal size, alternating chills and fever, sleeplessness, cramping muscles, nausea, headache and general body aches and pains. Has lasted for a week now but better each day.

Will there be permanent immune system damage due to this? If so, anything I can do to offset it? What health issues can I expect in the future from this dumb mistake?

Thanks so much for informed and serious answers.

I know this is an old post but I'm commenting in case someone else is searching for this. I had a similar reaction to my FIRST pneumonia vaccine - swollen/very painful arm, fever, chills, headache, no appetite - I'm still experiencing it 3 1/2 days later.

Hello,
You have been vaccinated early for the second dose. It may not cause much harm except that it may interfere to some extent with the immune response to the vaccine. Pneumonia vaccine is an inactivated vaccine containing only a portion of the microbe; therefore the vaccines cannot possibly cause pneumococcal disease. Neither will it cause any permanent immune system damage. It should in no way cause any serious future consequences. Do consult a local health care provider and discuss all your concerns. Hope it helps. Do keep us posted.
Take care and good luck!
