hyperthyroidism

I have been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism - all thyroid studies off the chart- no TSH at all and 4 times the level of T3&T4.HAve lost 15kgs, pulse rate 160 raised blood pressure & palpitations and now i am going really thin in the hair department. I am not a good patient and would like to know if anyone has had thyroid surgery to correct this major problem. I really am more concerned that my hair is falling out. I do take the medications that have been prescribed

I was diagnosed with hyperthyrodism back in 1994, off the chart levels. They tried the radiation iodine pill, but still two weeks later it did not do much, so they had no choice to remove my thyroid completely. It took about a year to get the dosage right afterwards, but when they did i was back to normal. The heart rate was the scariest, the tech who did my scan was afraid i would go into cardiac arrest while doing the scan. Keep in touch with your doctor......

yes i have had a TSH but it did not record any level of TSH at all- have had a nuclear scan and iit show massive uptake of whatever so thyrotosicosis is the diagnosis

You had no TSH tests done? Where are you located? One could speculate you are hyperthyroid (Grave's maybe) but a TSH level needs to be looked at for sure.

Did you have any scans?

hello, sounds like i used to feel! My thryoid was unbelivebly hyper, I too wanted it removed but after a year it burnt out on it's own, thats when the hair loss really got bad but now my thryoid levels are fianally normal, and the hair is growing back!!! and I lost alot! but I just wanted to reassure you that it will grow back  as soon as your Dr gets you on the right meds and your levels return to normal.
hope this helps you to feel a little better!!
