Red rashes around my lips

Hi , a few years ago i played a trumpet for about 2-3 years. Since then my skin around the lips has gone really dry. The rest of my skin is fine. Every time i wash my face it shows up really bad and red. In less then 5 minutes the skin drys out and starts to crack but doesn't turn red. So i use vaseline and it helps a bit but i still have to constanly use it or it would sometimes randomly come up red and lumpy. I've been to the doctors and they've given me many creams but it still doesn't help. I don't know what the problem is ?

This discussion is related to Exzema of the lips?.

Those red marks around your lips sounds like the same thing as what i have, except i have been fight it since i was 4(im now 21)..same as you, i have tried lotions, creams, soaps, facial scrubs....and nothing seems to work..i put a bit of polysporin on my face before bed.hopeing it will work.in the morning the red marks seem to be a little less...but light right up throughout the day..when i clean my face it sparks up severly..If you find a cure..i would LOVE to know.....Im at my wits end.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,

This may be a case of contact dermatitis or irritant dermatitis. Do you have any history of allergies?

Do you still continue to play with the trumpet?

Dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory condition and it lasts for  a long time. Certain triggers like change in temperature, stress, and food intake may cause exacerbations. However, it is also possible that application of certain creams and prolonged use of steroids on the face may cause this condition. So at this point, are you still using any medicated creams? This may be further irritating the area. Steroids should only be applied when necessary and should only be applied sparingly.

Use a mild cleanser like Cetaphil or Dove. If this is dermatitis it may recur from time to time. Discuss these with your physician and try to observe other factors that may trigger it.
