pain

My daughter, 22, has had painful periods. Her health has been fragile for the last 3 years since it was discovered she has Celiac disease, and a number of food allergies.  She does have Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and other mental health issues. She takes Trileptal. She is single and not sexually active. She has had chronic yeast infections in the past, but they have been resolved.  The pain, during AND after her period is in her pelvic area, lower back, headaches. Her appetite has been low this week. She has been to her OB-GYN, who poked around and said he is not worried about cysts, and gave her a pain Rx, which only made her feel sick, and did not help the pain. Over-the-counter pain relievers do not help. **** Quai helped at one point, but not this past month.  The dr. suggested massage, which she then had done by a massage therajpist.  It did not help. My maternal grandmother had uterine cancer in her 80's. My maternal aunt (now 90) is a breast cnacer survivor. Any advice?  Should additional tests (ultrasounds, etc.) be run? Thanks.

It sounds like endometriosis. Tell her to ask her doctor regarding this. It is very painful.

Marie-My mom was the same way. She told me she had very bad painful periods, but they stopped after she had my brother and me.

I agree with msjazz.  But wow, did you ever bring back memories for me!!  I had horrible cramps and pain from periods when I was young.  Nothing was wrong, though, and they stopped after childbirth when I was 19.  Better check it out with a CT or ultra-sound just to be sure. I don't think those things had been invented yet when I had my trouble!!  Good luck. Marie

There are too many possibilities for me to advise what this is. I would seek a second opinion from another gynecologist. Or insist on ultrasound or ct from the dr. she has now. My gyn told me 3 days before being diagnosed with 3c ovca that my pain was not " female related". It was found by a gastroenterologist   Best wishes.
