Vaginal Cuff Mass

I am not sure what I really intend to get answered here.  But here I go.  I am middle age.  I had a hyst. in 1992 keeping both ovaries.  Never had any problems until about 5 years ago and I began to have this unexplained pain in my pelvic and vaginal area.  Doctor has done every test in the book.  Seen a urologist too.  The Dr. is an Internal Med Dr.  Last test being in Oct. 2007 when I had a MRI.  Said it was fine.  If I still had pain come back.  Well of course I had pain.  Did not go back.  Then last week the pain was so bad I said phooey and went to the ER.  They did a CT scan with contrast and a transvaginal ultrasound.  I also had a regular ultrasound.  Doc says I have a 3cm size mass that appeared to be outside my bladder.  Sent me to see my doc.  I got to see him and he also was able to get my medical records from ER.  Records say I have a Vaginal Cuff mass that has blood flow through it.  I also have an extended renal pelvis and an ovarian cyst.  I also have severe low back pain with this.  I have an appt. with my first gyno. since my surgery.. So what do you all think?

Wow,I did not know all of that.  I had the hyst. in 92 so I really was pretty young and stupid so I did not ask alot of questions.  I was not even sure if they took my cervix until I asked the Dr, when he done an exam if I had one or not.  No I do not.  I thought 3 cm was small but when you covert to inches that is approx. 1.2 inches.  To me that is fair size.   I go next Wed. to the ob/gyn and cannot wait because I am ready to put this behind me.   Thanks so much for the info.

Intersting, because at my most recent check-up after removal of a borderline tumor (TAH/BSO in August 07), I also had a small vaginal cuff mass. They did a biopsy on and it while I was there and it was apparently nothing, but it did have me concerned for a couple of days, while I was waiting for the results.

Make sure your doctor does proper follow-up as others have suggested and good luck.

Hi there...I have a vaginal cuff mass, but I also have ovarian cancer, so that's not totally unusual. If your mass has blood flow through it, I'm not sure what it could be. Tumors tend to be solid masses - could it be a remnant from your hysterectomy? I would think that your renal system may be backed up slightly because of the mass. I know I have kidney issues because my mass is pushing on my ureter and it's causing my kidney to swell up. The back pain your having could very well be from this mass or even your ovarian cysts.
I'm not sure what else to tell you.I hope your doctor is throughly looking into it for you...
Take care,
Becky

One of our members here with ovca has (or had) a vaginal cuff mass, so perhaps she will step in and comment, although I think she may be busy in treatment right now.  When I asked my gyn/onc about why I still needed a PAP smear without a uterus, he told me he was checking the vaginal cuff.  I'm not clear whether you have cancer or not, but that is one area they check for those of us with an ovca dx.

I never heard of a vaginal cuff mass but better to be safe than sorry and defintely see a board certfied gynecologist as soon as possible. If need be and it needs to be removed your best bet is a 2nd opinion.  Hopefully someone else on the forum will have more info to give to you. Dont put it off any longer...get to the Doctor as soon as possible.  Good Luck..Gia :)
