I was diagnosed at 18 years old, but experienced symptoms since I was very, very young. some medications i tried masked the symptoms, syomax worked the best, but like any medication, it had its side effects. It caused me to have foggy brain function, and just make stupid mistakes in a high stress working environment. if you have this condition, I would greatly suggest changing your career or lifestyle to something that has you constantly sitting. i find exercising on a bike works best, because you are not upright. for me, I was a drummer in marching band for several years, and i perused a degree as a machinist. both of those require me to stand up for up to 8 hours at a time, and living in phoenix Arizona, I am constantly standing in excessive heat of 105+. pretty much the worst conditions possible for this condition. I always just thought I was out of shape, but was relieved to have a medical excuse for my constant passing out. I cope by eating some sugary snack on my way to work, ( my favorite is a nutri-grain bar, and a pack of gushers, along with a couple packets of salt, and at least one 1-liter bottle of water per hour. for lunch I eat a high-carb peanut butter and jelly sandwich, usually with a few more granola bars, and more unhealthy sweets. try to avoid the oily chips, and soda's. tea often helps me in the morning, but for some reason coffee just does me in. also, stay as far from alcohol as you can. I had half a glass of margarita at a wedding, and I was tipsy for several days, and I passed out almost every time I tried to stand up. there are was of coping, but the most suggested is a HUGE lifestyle and diet change. medications help, but there is only so much you can do. good luck!

Hi bbears and Rudy777,

Be sure to check out the Dysautonomia Community.  I'll bet you'll find more members who can help, and relate to living with NCS.

Here's the link:  http://www.medhelp.org/forums/show/266

I'm sorry I can't offer much help.  But, I'm hoping the other community will be able to offer ideas, etc.
