I get the same symptoms

Hi wdonohoo,

I get exactly the same symptoms. I get asthma that is a real breathless asthma but without the wheeze. Also my peak flows seem to be still good when I get the asthma symptoms. At the same time I get a very bloated stomach, almost distended like I am pregnant and some dull pain in my abdomen (usually on the right hand side). My abdomen becomes tender near the liver region. I do have a gall polyp that could be contributing to it but this is very very small.

I have been tested for HPylori and it was negative. I have also been told to take Nexium but this just makes me tighter. Not sure what is going on. I have had endoscopy and colonoscopy, ct scans and nothing is showing up.

Sometimes it almost feels like a virus is attacking my body. I have had heaps of blood tests for everything - cytoplasma, vds, hiv, etc and nothing has come up positive (which is great but then again I would love to know what is happening to me.)

This has been going on now for a number of years and is not improving. I also feel quiet off colour when I get the attacks.

Thanks for your response Alisonc78. Yes I think my GP thougtht GERD and perhaps still does, but the fact I cannot take the Nexium has not helped. I wonder if there are two things going on. GERD plus some viral bug that is reocurring. Can GERD lead to reoccuring lung infections?

Sounds like GERD induced asthma. It can cause the cough your talking about as well.  I was having chest pains for months had no idea what it was from, went to a cardiologist nothing wrong there. Then one day I started getting short of breath after I ate and now it is constant shortness of breath. It gets really bad when I eat, lay down, drink a coke etc. I am living very differently this has turned my world upside down. I am on all the asthma meds as well. I had no idea I even had reflux until right before the asthma showed up. They really go hand and hand and they are not good to have together because they make each other worse. I would keep taking the antacids. Maybe try Prilosec OTC till you can see a gastroenterologist, with Mylanta in between after meals etc. Then of course follow all the lifestyle changes.

I forgot to metion I also get a dry cough that accompanies this condition and often get sticky pluggy phlegm.  The condition seems to flare up when I get run down or tired and often sleep is the only thing that will settle it down.

Does anyone get this sort of thing or know what is going on with me?
