Numb nipples

Does anyone know anything about nipples? I have recently discovered that I feel virtually nothing in my nipples. I can touch a pen lightly to my skin on my chest, arm etc and feel it, but if I touch it lightly to the areola, I feel nothing. I feel slightly more on the actual nipple itself but not . I have discovered I can dig my nails into my areola quite hard before I feel any pain. This numbness means I get no sexual stimulation from my nipples. I feel like I'm missing something and I think my boyfriend is slightly disappointed / alarmed about this discovery. As far as I know, no part of the body should be numb.

Having tried to find possible causes by searching the net, may I add that a) I do not have giant breasts - in fact, they no longer fill out an A cup, and b) I have not had breast implants.

Any advice would be welcome. Apologies if this appears a trivial topic, but it is important to me.

I know this is coming a little late as I found out this too on myself with my new boyfriend yesterday. He was playing and I got nothing. However the harder he did pinch or nibble(sorry ladies but he tried as I asked him too ) i actually got the stimulating sensation.

God I'm exactly the same. I can't seem to find an explanation, and none of my friends seem to be similar. I'm a DD though...

lol a bit of an outdated question, but I just wanted to let you know, if you will ever see this that is, that I have this "areola numbness" too. I feel nothing when I touch a pen to the areola, but just surrounding skin on my chest and anywhere else on my body I can tell the slightest touch. It's the weirdest thing right? The actual tip of the nipple is still sensitive (more than normal skin), but I suspect that it's not as much as normal people's. Stimulation of it isn't as good as other people's experiences I've read about.

I haven't had breast surgery of any kind either and coincidentally, I can only fit into a few size A bras but only if they're a push up. XD

I hope someone responds because last night, I experienced sudden numbness/lack of feeling in my areolas and nipples.  Flat-out had no idea they were being touched (by my husband, sorry for the detail).  This morning, it's still like that.  I've never experienced this before.  It's more the areola than the nipples.
