Liver Problem?

I had my gallbladder and appendix out almost a year ago (august 2007) because my gallbladder was not functioning. No blood tests were done after to check my liver (hepatic panel). Now that I have three other problems (chronic diarrhea, bloating, and weight gain) my GYNECOLOGIST checked my liver and found severe abnormalities in my liver tests. Does anyone know of any complications of this sort after a cholecystectomy?

My GP said that my enzymes were elevated. She suggested doing  CT scan of my liver to see if there were any cysts or tumors. She doesn't think that the hypersecretion of the liver is related to the cholecystectomy, however she wants me to be screened for hepatitis because i did spend an extended period of time in mexico with no knowledge of hep vaccines.

It depends a bit on what the severe abnormalities with you liver tests are. The enzyme levels - depending on what the enzymes are and in some cases their ratios - can suggest either problems that can directly be attributed to liver issues, or in other cases changes can result from post-cholecystectomy issues.

The diarrhea and bloating can in many cases be directly attributed to your change in the way you release bile after the surgery, unfortuantely. And they can also be attributed to the fact that you may not be able to process fats as you did before the surgery. In some cases, a very low fat diet needs to be implemented and followed. If that doesn't help, you may want to discuss the use of a bile-binding resin with your doc.
