leg swelling after knee arthroscopy

I have my both knees arthroscopy done end Jun08.  I now have mild swelling legs below my knee.  I still can feel sharp pain going up or down staircase.  I cant even squat as the pain is sharp and I just don't like it.  Any one who can tell me if this is normal after the arthroscopy ?

hi,

In my opinion the recovery depends on each individual persons disposition, injury sustained, and the kind of procedure undertaken.

The main factors in a persons disposition is the age, sex, physical status and disease status. I think the improvement should be significant over the three weeks. how do you rate the pain on a scale of 10, 10 being the extremely painful condition?

You may be able to run, squat and other normal activities over some period of time. I think an examination should be done and the recovery timeline crosschecked in your case.

Glad to be of help. Let me know if you may need any more help.

The reason the arthroscopy was done is due to knee pain as a result of meniscus tear n torn cartilage.   My doctor is not at our town.  I have to fly in to another town to do the arthroscopy.  I did call my doctor & was advise that this is normal after the incision.  Well, I now can walk around but slow.  My knees seem not able to support me even normal daily thing like going to toilet.  I need some support in order to sit down or stand up.  Just wonder if it is normal.  My doctor tells me my discomfort will be gone in about 3 weeks time, but it is almost 3 weeks already & I do not feel that the discomfort is gone.  Usually, patients of this case suffer for how long before they can have their normal life of running, squatting without any pain or discomfort ?...tq

Hi,

do you know the reason an arthroscopy was done on your knees?

Arthroscopy (also called arthroscopic surgery) is a minimally invasive surgical procedure in which an examination and sometimes treatment of damage of the interior of a joint is performed using an arthroscope, a type of endoscope that is inserted into the joint through a small incision. Arthroscopic procedures can be performed either to evaluate or to treat many orthopaedic conditions including torn floating cartilage, torn surface cartilage, ACL reconstruction, and trimming damaged cartilage.

since its is an invasive procedure there are bound to be some side effects after the procedure. Most patients heal in a few days and are able to bear the full body weight in a few weeks.

Have you met your doctor and described to him your current disposition? where is the swelling? and how much pain do you have?

Perhaps the best cours would be to meet your doctor and get this examined.. Let me know if you need any more help.
