itchy arms

I have had itchy tingling arms for over 20 years.  I have been to so many doctors, I've lost count. Some say it's allergys. Some say it's stress. Some creams work for a while. I've taken alot of allergy meds. Zyrtec seemed to help more than the others. I also take Doxipen. the Dr. just doubled my dose. I have a steriod cream that I use as well. It only helps during the day for a while. It itches so bad, I feel like I need to burn the area or even cut it out of my arm with a knife. It goes from one arm to the other. This time it's on both arms and the back of my shoulders. It looks terrible, but I can't wear sleeves or any kind of lotion or make up to cover up my scabs. Soap and water helps a little. I'm either washing cream off or putting it on. My dermotologist said that I should use the tanning bed it would help. I don't think it does. I can't be out in the sun for a very long time.
I'm so tired of people saying, "just stop scratching."  I wish I could. I was happy to hear I'm not the only one up at night going crazy.

  I suffer from this problem too many years to count. Finally i have the answer! use DICKINSONS WITCH HAZEL and use lots of it!

I understand how distressing this one is for you. Rash and pruritus may be due to several factors. Superficial skin conditions like dermatitis, allergies and eczema may be considered in your case. This has been present for years which is expected of dermatitic skin conditions. Thus, the chronicity of your condition may highly suggest that this may be dermatitis. A skin allergy test may be done to identify possible triggers. Also, applying Fluocinonide 0.05% over affected skin may help relieve the symptoms. Do not use indefinitely. Stop after two weeks if the redness and itchiness subside. Apply thinly daily over the area. You may ask your physician about this.

There is really no single definite therapy to resolve dermatitic skin conditions. Corticosteroids appear to be the mainstay of therapy.
