Hi,

The impact of disease depends on which particular bones are affected. A fracture would be a complication (and some men do present suddenly with a broken bone after no recalled trauma- and then a diagnosis of cancer is made). If the bone is along the spine, where a fracture may lead to loss of function below the spinal level, then this is potentially catastrophic as it may translate into inability to walk, problems with defecation, and voiding urine.

More general symptoms would include diffuse pain, the location again dependent on which bones may be affected.  The pain may be associated with movement and with position, and hence anticipatory management (taking medications for pain before the associated activiy) is appropriate. The severity of the pain may require powerful narcotic analgesics.

Discuss these issues and the availability of medications.
Stay positive.
