can gastroparesis get better or be stablized

Does anyone know if gastroparesis can get better with proper nutrition and medicine (domperidone) and be stable for a long period of time or does it always progress?

It goes in spurts... it will get better from time to time.  My husband has idopathic gastroparesis.  In the last 8 years it has gotten better and then he will have a flare up.  Each flare up got worse, and then August 2009 it was worse than over.  Between August 2009 and February 2010, he was hospitalized a total of 9 times.  He can't work and it has totally paralyzed his life.  He had surgery on March 1, 2010 to have a gastric pacemaker implanted.  For the last 8 years, they controlled the symptoms with Reglan, Carafate, Phenergan, and Zofran.  They started not to work and that is when his Dr suggested a gastric pacemaker.  So far, it's working.  There have been other complications though.  He is experiencing reatractable pain, but the Dr. is managing his pain right now.  I can tell you from experience though... Gastroparesis changes your life and your families life.  There is no cure, only treatment of symptoms.  Some get better, some get worse.  They don't know what causes it either.

Valmore, if the gastroparesis is due to diabetes or any type of problem resulting from autoimmune problems that attack the nerves, gastroparesis cannot be reversed.

In others, however, the causative factor or factors are not known. And, unfortunately, it's not known whether or not the condition will get better and resolve or progress. Some people do report they slowly get better though.
