On Depo Lupron for endo. Feel very pregnant, but negative tests!

I actually feel a little ridiculous asking this question, but here goes.  I am 25 years old with no previous pregnancies.  I was diagnosed w/ endo last November and had a lap right after Christmas and was then started on Depo Lupron.  I was under the impression that Lupron was a contraceptive (note to others...its NOT!!) so my fiancee and I didn't bother with any form of birth control.  My last Lupron injection was in mid May and by June I was beginning to wonder if I was pregnant.  Of course I don't have a period to go on due to the Lupron treatments, so the easy way to find out is not an option.  The second week in July I finally went in to the doctor because I couldn't shake the feeling of being pregnant.  Both the urine and blood tests came back negative.  I left feeling a little confused but glad to know for sure.  Well, here comes the crazy part, I've tried to put it out of my mind (and have succeeded sometimes) but can't shake the feeling of being pregnant.  My period still hasn't started since my last Lupron injection (May) and I called my doctor last week and she said it should have started by now, but to give it another month before I go in.  My fiancee left me the first week in July, so I haven't had sex since the end of June so if I am pregnant, I would have to be a minimum of 9-10 weeks along.  The nausea is lessening some, but I still have no desire to eat much...nothing really sounds good. Smells about drive me insane (I had to get rid of the air freshner in the house because I couldn't handle it!), I've been having some low back achyness, tired...no EXAUSTED all the time (I'm normally a very active person) and sleeping as much as 12 hours a night, some mild leg cramping and pain in underarms (not so much in the breasts).  And now my normally flat stomach is definitely starting to bulge just a little bit.  Not to mention the headaches...I've even missed work twice because of them!  The "am I pregnant" quizes that I've found have all said that they are 99% sure that I am pregnant, but with negative pregnancy test results still...is that even possible?  What are the chances of being 9 weeks along and still getting a negative on home pregnancy tests?  Would the Depo Lupron have an affect on the level of hormones produced in my body or the test results?   I know there is a possibility of your mind "tricking" your body into thinking that you are pregnant, but the fact that this "feeling" has spanned over 2 months, I'm a little skeptical of that being the case.  I just don't want to go back to the doctor saying "I think you're tests are wrong and I am pregnant".  Like I said I feel a little foolish, but I haven't been able to find anyone else that has this particular question.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!! (If anyone took the time to actually read all of this and get to this point!!)  Have a great day!

I am experiencing the exact same thing!!! My last shot was I July. It has been 7 months and I have not started my cycle. I have taken at least 4 pregnancy tests and all of them have been negative. I feel like I'm going crazy. I definitely feel pregnant. I am gaining weight and my sense of smell is ridiculously sensitive. I was experiencing nausea, vomiting and breast tenderness that has subsided.
I totally get not wanting to go back to the doctor. I am afraid they may think I'm having some sort of mental break.
I embrace any advise or suggestions at this point. I donate plasma pretty regularly and I wouldn't want to harm my baby if I am pregnant. My husband and I are actually excited about the thought of a little addition to the family. If anyone has any insight on this matter, PLEASE HELP?
Thank you.

Hello...I had a ovarian cyst removed in May 2010 and they also had to remove my ovary and tube...In May 2011, I was diagnose  with endometriosis. Last Jan, it was 12cm, but now it is 6cm...I am currently on Lupro, to strink the cyst. I am praying and asking god to strink the rest of this cyst, so I can move on with my life. I am scheduled to go and see another fertility doctor in 2 weeks, to talk about if I need to get surgery. I only have one ovary and tub, left and I am praying, they can save it so that I can conceive a child/children.  At times, I do feel like I am pregnant but I know when the time is right GOD will heal me and take this away. God bless you all and I hope you have faith in him to know that he is the only one who can heal us.

When they did the lap did they remove all the endo?

Was it done by laser or Excision (cut out)?

If they did not remove any Endo and they put you on Lupron then that would be very silly of them.

Just so you can have a little background information on Lupron since most doctors are very uneducated themselves and don't give the patients the right info or any as a matter of fact.

Lupron's only purpose is to suppress your periods. If you can handle another form of medication like the birth control pill I would high suggest taking that continuously every day without stopping. You will get break through bleeding every 3 months and that is when you would come off for a couple of days then go back on again.

Lupron puts you into menopause and causes a lot of side effects that are unnecessary because the injection can not stop Endometriosis from growing, nothing does. Only by using the excision technique will you have an 80% chance at less pain and a slower regrowth rate.

Lupron is not nice and I know for myself I will never take it again. If you do decide to take it I would recommend the monthly verses the 3 month injection that way if the side effects are too much you dont have to wait 3 months for it to leave your system. In fact it takes longer than that to leave your symptoms. Please research this med before agreeing to it.

There are some women who have had a lot of success on it but I would say about 75% have not. Every women reacts to meds differently. The key is to suppress your period so you don't get pain

As for having a baby the only way to find out is to try. There are women with stage I Endo and are infertile yet there are women with Stage IV like myself who had a child naturally although it took a while.

Message me if you would like. I am always here to help.

Hello, here is my story... I had a baby he is 1 year old... But since I had him I was having to much pain on my body. I went to the doctor and they did some tests and until I told my doctor that I coul not stop the pain with any pills I drink, then she told me that the best way to find out why I had it was doing the laparoscopy and I did it but I was so scared it was the first surgery that I did in my life after the c- section with my lil one. When I came out they told me thy I have endometriosis chronic so I started on the lupron shot for six months tomorrow it is going to be 6 months of treatment I am feeling kinda scared because I would like to try to get my period again and try to have another baby right now that I can well don't know if I can't yet. Any suggestions?? Should I get te birth control shot that Is for 3 months or should I wait and get my regular period????

I am SO glad I ran across this! I thought I was going clinically nuts! With weight gain, nausea, sensitive to smell, no period, etc I completely thought I was pregnant and had multiple positive home pregnancy tests. I finally went to the doctor and the blood test came back negative. . I do have a question though, do any of you know what percentage of women actually become pregnant while on lupron depot ? My care provider told me that if I were to become pregnant while on it that it would probably not be viable, but did not give me a percentage.

I thought I was crazy! I've done 2 lupron shots 3 months apart and I still haven't gotten my period back from it and I think i'm pregnant now. I've been gaining weight, my stomach is rounder, my blood pressure is up, im nauseated, I've had swelling in my feet, pain in my back and I'm exhausted. I've done two pregnancy tests and they both came back negative but I still think I'm pregnant. I go to the gyno tomorrow so i'm going to ask that they do an ultrasound to see if i'm actually pregnant. That's the only way that they can tell for sure.

I am 34 years old, and I have been dealing with severe endometriosis for literally 20 years.  I have had 7 lap/hyst & D&C surgeries, and I have been on Lupron Depot 3 separate times.  I have had 8 different types of bc to slow the growth.  It has been a roller coaster to say the least.  I empathize with all of you having this same experience on any level.  At this point, surgeries are scheduled for me every 18 months to keep the endo from growing out of control.  I have one child, six years old.  I have no plans for future children, but my doctor would like me to keep my reproductive organs until I am 40 "Just in case" as he puts it.  I have been through every symptom known to the medical community that stems from endomteriosis and ovarian and uteran cysts.  Extreme pain, nausea, vomiting, irregular periods, extremely heavy flow, daily spotting, diarrhea, headaches, anemia, fatigue, pendulum like mood swings, vertigo, urinary tract infections, bladder infections, pain with intercourse, painful orgasms, inability to orgasm, bleeding with intercourse, painful ovulation, back pain, sciatic nerve damage, extreme pain in both legs, bowel damage (and now it is creeping toward my bladder, which could ruin the tube that runs from my kidneys to my bladder and cause kidney failure - this is the reason for the third round of Lupron).
Each time on the Lupron Depot has been a different experience for me.  The first time I was only 21, and I experienced the hot flashes, night sweats and bouts of anxiety attacks and depression.  I was on the monthly shot for 6 months.  My period did not return for a full year after the last shot, and in fact, I had to begin taking a birth control pill to essentially force it back.  My second time on Lupron, I was 29 and had my one year old child - I was again on the monthly shots and this time I didn't have any of the previous symptoms, I simply had no desire to do anything, say anything, go anywhere and I was angry all of the time.  Everything set me off.  This third time has been a completely new experience from the first two trips.  I am happy, giggly even.  I do have headaches and nausea daily.  I have had a couple of mild hot flashes and one evening of night sweats.  But all in all this time has been much improved over the last two.  I share this information because I am an extreme case.  When this was first discovered in me I was 13.  I had my first surgery at 17 years old.  My doctor came out of the OR with tears explaining to my mother that I was on the verge of death and how bad he felt after what he saw.  He knew I had to be in a momentus amount of pain.  I have my same beloved doctor today.  My endo is a rapid grower.  It also webs out (unlike most of you who may have "pockets" of tissue) and adheres to everything it can. My advice to all of my fellow sisters with this horrible disease is first and foremost, find a doctor that is also an advanced surgeon and one that you trust.  I can tell you that I am okay today because my entire history is with one doctor.  My second piece of advice is that regardless of the odd way these shots make you feel, and even if you may have to do them again in the future, they are extremely helpful and worth the side effects that come with them (which are different for everyone).  I wish all of you luck with your conditions, and for those of you trying to conceive, it is possible.  I was told that there was no way I would ever have a child, and I got pregnant a year after one of my surgeries.  It's possible.

Are you taking add-back if not you need to ask your doctor for. It helps with the side effects of instant menopause. My doctor says that to prescribe lupron w/o add-back is the equivalent of torture. Also instead of the three month,  did you know that there is a 4 week one. Yes you have to get once a month. But my doctor will not offer the others-- too strong. And he should know he was one of the original researchers.

That is very helpful information.  Thank you.  I had lap surgery the day after Christmas to have a mass removed off my right ovary and that's how they found out I had endometriosis everywhere, which is what caused the cyst.  My ovarian tubes were so cystic that the eggs couldn't get through so they just caused cysts almost every month.  My husband got home from Iraq, August of last year and we immediately started TTC.  Literally the next day I was in the ER with the most excruciating pain I've ever felt.  A cyst ruptured on my right ovary.  The next month, the same thing, and the next, etc and still no pregnancy. Then I had my appt at the OB/GYN Nov when she saw a huge 4in mass. Then the surgery date was scheduled. After the surgery I was ordered to be put on a 3 month Depot Lupron treatment.  For me, the hot flashes were AWEFUL! I had at LEAST 5 a day and at LEAST 3 night sweats every night.  My last shot was March 5 and I still have no period, still no baby, and still hot flashes.  Not as bad as when I was on treatment, but they are still there.  My husband and I never used any protection ever since we've been together, about 10 years. And no babies.  When I was little, if someone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I ALWAYS answered, "a mommy." I still give that answer today.  I know God has plans for me to be a mom, I can't see my life without children in it.  I'm the ONLY one in my family left, my generation of course, without children.  It broke my heart every month I had a negative pregnancy test, and now it breaks my heart every week I don't start my period, because I know that means no ovulation.  I'm not giving up hope, I've heard stories of other women, and I know that one day I'll get my big fat positive, I just pray it's one day soon.  Plus I have an OB/GYN appt this Wednesday, so I hope I get good news.  I'm going to pray for every woman on this page as well, and that one day y'all will get your big fat positives too. If you want them of course. :-) Cross your fingers.

Hi, i read all that you had to say about Lupron Depot and the Pregnancy scare.... My name is Natasha, im 20 years old, and just started my Lupron Depot shot about a month ago. I am taking the 3 month period shots for 6 months... My doctor suggested that i use condoms because the shot doesn't protect me against pregnancy, but she also did say they she doesn't see how i could get pregnant on this shot anyways. So i didn't figure i needed to take any pro cations towards the matter. I also have not used any type of protection for over 3 years and have not ever became pregnant, so i didn't think i could anyways being on the shot. I too have had the feeling of being pregnant. The eating habits are more extreme, feeling nausea or ill, headaches, etc. I just figured it was my mind tricking me into thinking i was. I read up on some different sights about girls who have become pregnant while on Lupron Depot...and here is some of what i read: it can increase chances of miscarriages. (it has said nothing about weather or not it can cause berth defects or damage to the baby) and it also said it is a low range % that a woman can get pregnant, while on the shot, but it has happened. You are supposed to gain your period back after taking the shot withing 6 to 8 weeks... but for some girls their periods are never gained back. other woman have gotten pregnant after the shot before their periods have even came back, but it lowers the chances of having more kids later down the road... it is suggested that we wait to start trying for a baby after we gain our periods back. so 1)the problem with not have children later does not accrue and 2) the shot is 100% out of your system for when the child is produced. the first few months are the most important for the baby for it is the when there organs are developing and the brain is most frugal. if you are on the shot while pregnant i am sure that could cause problems for these developments for your baby. I am not a doctor but i have taken many courses due to the fact that i have had so many issues with my woman-hood and found out that i have Endometriosis. I am young, yes, but i know i was born to one day be a mother and even if that comes down to me having to adopt i will. Do not loose hope in having a child one day. Woman all over the world go threw this and other problems and are told they will never have a child, but there are just as many that do get pregnant just after they are cured. I know a woman personally who would have sex with out protection for over 4 years and never for pregnant. She later found out she had Endometriosis and it was so bad to the point that treatment would not work and she had to get the surgery. She not has 3 healthy kids and even one of them is off to college. it was just after she had healed from her surgery that she had gotten pregnant with her first child. so don't give up all hope. You could have been having trouble becoming pregnant before you found out about your condition, but you may become "fertile Murtal" after the operation or treatment!

I am happy for you. I hope with as long as you were on Lupron that they did a dexa of your bones. My doctor was one of the original reserachers and refuses to give Lupron longer than a year (unless you have a long time since the last injection) He knows it is not good for your bones even with add-back. He refuses to prescribe Lupron w/o add-back.

Hello Fellow Endo Friends!
I am 25 and have had stage 4 endometriosis for 4yrs now and have been on Lupron and Mirena together for the last 1yr-1 1/2. My doc explained to me that Lupron gives a false preg feeling to your brain and you experience the same "morning sickness like" symptoms as if you were pregnant.
I have had 2 lapos 1 ooverectomy and had to have the lower half of my uterus reconstructed. . .I started Lupron right after my last procedure 2yrs ago. . .if you can get through the horrible morning sickness like symptoms and the emotional roller coaster ride it really does work wonders on the endo.  I haven't had a Lupron shot for the last 5 months now and my doctor thinks that I am in remission now. . HUGE MIRACLE!!!

if you can't handle the topsy turvey emotions and the crazy cravings along with the nausea see if your doctor will prescribe some kind of a "happy pill" such lorazepam. . .this will helpstablize some of the roller coaster emotions and help simulate some sort of nomal. at least it did for me anyways. . .

Hope this helps somebody out there!

Best to luck to all my endo sisters out there!

ok ladies i am so glad i can relate to someone. I am 31 and got diagnosed with endo 9 almost 10 years ago. i have had 4 lapo procedures and after the first one i was pregnant within a month and she is 9 years old. this is my second time on lupron and i dont remember feeling like i am pregnant, i just had my fourth procedure Aug 2011 and had the lupron Sept 2011 and this is Oct and havent had my cycle yet. My breast are tender, bloated, very bad cramping which reminds me of when i was pregnant with my daughter and my uterus was stretching. i called my doc and the nurse said to take a test and i did but neg. im going to try it again in the morning cause they say thats when the levels are high, but im so confussed cause my body is telling me im pregnant and i have all the signs but the test say no. im not on bc and my fiance and i have been trying to have a child so it will be lovely to be pregnant. if someone could tell me if as soon as your first dose of lupron did your cycle stop and how long did your body feel pregnant. when i read the info on lupron it said you can get pregnant within the first couple of weeks and then some docs say you cant get pregnant. which one is it and do the medicine in the lupron give a false neg with home preg test.

wow so glad i'm not the only one out there feeling like this! I have had endo for over ten years now and after a few surgeries and depo provera i finally put my foot down along with my husband and said Enough is enough, i couldnt live like that any longer! so i started Lucrin in Jan and i've got my last injection in a few days time. I was terrified of going on it after reading side effects but...the hot flushes, night sweats, headaches and feeling pregnant lol are nothing compared to how much pain i was in before! i could honestly say i could carry on living like this instead of pain! But i want to know how long after my last injection can i start trying for children? i saw some of you saying that it took a really long time to get your period back? is this typical? and how many of you that have finished lucrin are 'fixed'?? if you got pain back was it better or the same? and how much time 'off' from pain did you get? very interested! Thanks Anna

I have endometriosis also and had a cyst on both ovaries.  I had the surgery and 2 weeks after got my depo shot.  I only had the one shot and that was on Sept 3, 2010.  I should have started my period around christmas and didnt so back to the doc I went.  She put me on clomid to get me back to normal.  I have never missed a period before.  I was right on 28 days and since this shot Its been interesting.  I did start on Sept. 15th 2010 and that was hurendous pain.  Worse than before the surgery.  Cramps big time.  Well that was the last one.  I took the 5 day clomid starting Jan 6, 2011 and its been 21 days since the last pill was taken and still nothing.  Im not sure what is going on but im very discouraged.  Granted I dont really like the monthly annoyance but if this will fix me then Im game.  I have never felt like I was pregnant.  I was moody.  I felt good though.  Im hoping that the endo has stopped or slowed down but my doc really doesnt tell me anything.  She just hands me a prescription and says take this and I end up doing the research on it.  I guess Im just putting my trust in she knows what shes doing.  Has anyone else been in a situation like this?

HI!!! My name is Lynsi. I have had endo since I had my first child, she is 4, almost 5 years old now....I have a 17 month old son also, but just started the Lupron Depot shot for my endo...... My last period was on September 27th 2010, I started the lupron shot on September 29th 2010.    Today is the 3rd of November. I did not get my period in October at all, I have taken 3 home pregnancy tests (all from the same box) and all 3 came back negative. I am starting to wonder if they were all defective, or if the lupron shot can cause a false answer. I read in another forum ( by a doctor ) that the lupron depot shot LOWERS the GnRh levels which contribute to HcG levels, and a pregnancy test cannot show positive if those GnRh levels are low..... SO, I have no idea!! So confusing.  My doctor said he has never heard of anyone NOT having their period the month after starting the shot. I have to figure this out though, because I have two children, I know what pregnant feels like, and I deffinately feel pregnant!

As some people said its a horrible drug...it may have some horrible side affects....but i feel its worth it to get rid of the endo...i was in a lot of paid with endo to where i left work all the time or left school all the time and would lay on the floor in pain crying. I am only 19 years old and had endo for 4 years before we found out what it was. I had surgery and now on my second shot of lupron. my question is though, if it can affect a home pregnancy test because I am going to get a tattoo on monday and want to take one just because of the feeling pregnant symptoms I am having.

Reading this helps out a lot. I was told that I have endo in March after 3 er visits. I started birth control and took it for 3 months which helped with the pain. I still could not be with my husband with out being in horrible pain and I would want to cry. I went back to the OB-GYN in June and on June 10, 2010 I had my first shot of Lupron DPO and I have my period in June. I'm having issues with my insurance company and if they now will cover the shoot. I only had the shoot once and it was the low dose shot.   All the post I read everyone was on there 3 rd or more shoot and having the pregnancy feeling. I had the shoot once and feel that I'm pregnant. I have not had my period for a month now and no birth control. I just can't see how one month can effect it and if it can? I do have two boys now that I'm very greatful for and would not change that for the world. I just want to know if it can effect a home pregnancy test and did anyone else have this issue after one shoot of lupron?  I'm very confused.

Hi there. I am in the same situation as you are, but as far as I know, giving you hormones to start again your period will help you.  I was given hormones for a few months and I started having my periods, after almost after a year of have been given the Lupron shots.  Remember everybody reacts differently to the meds, but you should talk to your doctor and see what options you have.

Also, it's a good idea to measure your prolactin levels since they can keep you from ovulating and having your regular periods.  Now I am taking a med to lower the prolactin and by taking it, I have started having my periods since I also want to have kids.

I found a lot of help in this site since there are a lot of women going through the same thing, so if you have doubts, keep asking until you feel comfortable, but don't just wait and watch.

Best wishes,

Neta
