Dull head sore spot

Male, early 20's, caucasian, non-smoker, no current steady medication or lifelong illnesses

I've currently been experiencing random dull pain on the left side of my skull
about three inches above my ear. I have no idea obviously what could be causing this.
The pain comes randomly and is gone within a few seconds but it does raise some
concerns. I have recently had cold like symptoms and it mainly aches when i swallow
or when i am in the cold. This is not the first time this pain has occured, it usually dissipates
within a short span of time yet comes back and has been like this for a year or two.
the skull seems to be indented at the point of soreness.Would anyone happen to know
what causes this?I do not suffer from any head injury nor chronic migraines.

Thankyou.

thank you,
the only thing is I am not a chronic gum chewer nor do i clench my teeth at night. I did however suffer some heavy trauma to my teeth, (ie shattering my front teeth on a marble countertop.) would this affect my mandible, also the spot is nearly at the top of my head, does this coincide with tmj?

Hi There,

Thanks for posting.

The symptoms of pain above the ear and pain while swallowing are seen in due to TMJ or Temporomandibular joint disease.
This occurs commonly in people who are in the habit of chewing gum all day or who clench their teeth at night.

I would suggest you to get evaluated by a dentist for TMJ. Let us know if you have any more questions.
