How to correct a TSH of 0.003?

I have been hypothyroid for three years  now, and on synthroid 0.025 mcg. but,  since July 2008, my TSH has dropped to 0.03, with a normal range of T-3 and T-4. I am a 52 yr. old female.  I am now off the meds. but continue to have the low TSH level of anywhere from 0.005 to 0.001. My endocrinologist doesn't seem to know what is wrong, and I am still off my meds. I am NOT having any hypertyroid symptoms, if anything I still feel like I am hypothyroid. What else could be going on with me? I still have  fairly regular periods, but am probably going into menopause at this time. Please help!! I feel like I am loosing a lot more hair also, since I am off my medicine.

This discussion is related to very low TSH.

I am 52, almost 53 yrs. old (May 21st b-day.)  I have had all 3 of my children naturally, I did have a cyst frozen off my cervix at age 19.  Then last July when I went to the OB/Gyn, he found a small polyp  (1) on my cervix and removed it. It was benign, thank God. No other problems, or surgeries. I am getting erratic periods, and some heavy periods. Thank you for all your help/comments!!

You can get tested at the OB - I hope they do not lump you into a "normal" total range though - I had that happen to me for 3 years before someone REALLY looked at MY ranges and saw a problem with estrogen and progesterone.

Could you be in meno? I don't know / possibly.. -  How old are you? - Have you had any surgeries or female issues in the past?

I do think the hormones are pretty powerful things and when one falls even the slightest bit out of whack the whole system is disrupted.

Then comes the picking apart situation of finding out what needs attention and what doesn't to get you back running right again.

Process of elimination - Your thyroid is off - maybe pituitary related - ( Get that out of the way for sure)

then start digging though the rest of the puzzle to find the missing piece.

Hopefully answers will come soon for you - I believe it can happen and don't stress too much

Take one thing at a time.

Thank you so much for your comments. I go to my endocrinologist in Feb. so I can ask him about this. I feel I need answers. I just hope there is nothing seriously wrong with my thyroid gland or my pituitary gland. the Dr. has felt my thyroid and says it does not feel as enlarged as it was before. I have multiple nodular goiter. My TSH in Nov. 08 was 0.003, t-3, total was 184 and t-4, free was 1.2. Thanks for your help!  In your opinion, is it possibly hormone/menopause related? The Dr. has not done any tests, except bloodwork. I excersise 4-5 times a week, 1 hr. a day, and cannot seem to loose weight. would I go to the ob/gyn for the tests you have mentioned?

You could have an imbalance in cortisol levels too. I think you may most benefit with taking a saliva test.

I was going to ask you about menopause in your first sentence I read off your post.

What testing have you had done?
Question - HAve you put on weight too? I would look at where you are on the meno labs.  Have someone run the FSH.LH - estrogen - progesterone- testasterone panels. Your numbers may turn out "normal: - but the ranges of each panel may show signs of you lacking one or more of those hormones and that can tell alot - instead of reading it as a total panel.
