Constant throat clearing - tickle in throat

I have never been in a "forum" before - so I hope I'm doing this right! I found a post from 2006 that described my problem so well - but the discussion is closed now. The original post said:  " At least once or twice a week the smallest thing, like drinking water, or soda, or even taking in a breath, will trigger a tickle in my throat which sends me into a coughing fit until my eyes water and usually end with sneezing. " That is exactly what happens to me - does anyone have any information on this type of problem?

I am almost back to normal after 6 months since the coughing started.
From my own experience, I can offer a partial cure, possibly a complete cure if you stick with it.
Give up all dairy products (milk, butter, yoghurt, etc) and try to cut out bread and cereal. Change to a fruit based breakfast, pineapple, melon, strawberries and fruit juices. Cut out milk in tea and coffee and avoid mid morning donuts and pastries, You can always substitue nuts and dates. Avoid anything with fat in it such as sausage rolls or burgers, Also cheese has to go, do't even think about it, and hydrogenated fat is very bad in cakes, look at the label. It would be best to avoid cakes altogether. Try fish instead of meat and veg instead of fried food. In a week you should see a 50% improvement and in a month it may be gone. Don't go back to your previous ways though as it will return in a flash. Find an alternative none fat lifestyle.

Hi - (excuse me as I just clear my throat....) Yes, I have been having this happen to me, but only recently - perhaps a week or so. I had a cold prior, and feel my throat is constricted and tight. I woke up at 4.30am this morning struggling to breathe, eyes and nose streaming, and gasping and struggling for air. It was really quite frightening - nothing like this has happened before. It's Autumn here - cool mornings and evenings and sunny days.... maybe something in the air? Tickle, dry cough, more cough, red face, eyes begin to water.... Am hoping it will pass... really hoping. Hi, your tickle in the throat sounds just like mine and yes sometimes after taking in a breath, I would go into a coughing fit and some time end up with a sneeze or two. Does spicy food, smoke or alcohol also set you off??
