lower back pain after having a myelogram

Hi. I had a cervical myelogram done almost four weeks ago that has caused continuous lower back pain that hurts into my buttocks and hips. I hadn't had any problem with it before. It hurt as soon as the dr. injected the dye and he said that it irritated the nerves. I had a terrible headache for a couple of days but this pain is still going strong. Is this normal? How much longer will it last? Why would it irritate those nerves more than in the neck where I have so many problems? Thank you for your time. I would appreciate any help you can give me.

Thanks for the reply. I'm feeling pretty helpless with this. I called my physician this morning but couldn't get in to see him. I've had this now for ten weeks and it's even worse than it was. My doctor doesn't seem to want to order any tests for some reason. The radiologist who did the myelogram said he thinks the dye irritated some nerves and they think if I take mobic for six to eight weeks it should improve...well that's a long time when you've got so much pain. I've taken the mobic for 2 1/2 weeks. Should it have helped by now? Shouldn't the nerves have 'settled' down in this amount of time? Now my butt gets numb and I do have some pains into my left foot but I don't know if it's related. Thank you for your time. I appreciate it...again.

Sorry for the delay, the system of notification I am using is not so efficient.
Do a Lumbar x-ray Flexion and Extension , then do MRI to confirm the diagnosis of a nerve root compression

I have now been on mobic for two weeks and still no change. Except that the leg weakness has increased and can't stay in bed because of pain. Have been trying to sleep on the sofa and on the floor...still can't find relief. Any ideas? Thanks.

Do you have any more suggestions or solutions? Now it's been over seven weeks and still I have the same or worse problems. My doctors still haven't decided who should do what. I did have a toradol injection nine days ago but didn't get any relief whatsoever. Please help.

Hi. My cervical MRI showed hnp, bone spurs, spondylosis. I haven't had one on my lumbar spine since I hadn't had any problems there. Now, my lower back aches down into my hips and down my legs. No shooting, sharp pains just a throbbing ache. My legs get very weak and shaky when I stand for even a little while or walk much at all. I've been trying to walk as much as possible because I know that's the best exercise. It's been over six weeks and I'm still not over this. It's just very strange how this started out of no where. I went to my PCP Wednesday and he told me to call my NS and tell them they need to do something and they told me to call him. I called him then he called them..now I have to go back to see him to find out something. They're arguing over who should order a lumbar mri....what difference does it make who orders one?  I keep hoping it'll just go away. It doesn't hurt as much if I lie down sometimes. Thanks again for any advice.

Post lumbar puncture headache is very known ! it starts normally after 24 hours and could last even for one month, but surely you will recover.
But what about the result of the MRI ? no disc pathology was shown ?
And first tell me what kind of pain you present; low back pain or irradiating to the lower limb pain ? because I just feel that many should be done espcialy you have to do a FLEXION and EXTENSION lumbar spine x-ray, please be in contact to find your solution

Thanks for your reply. I've been taking Vit. B-Complex for six months or so. Is it pretty common for this to occur? Is it ever a permanent problem? I've been drinking a lot like they told me but it isn't really helping. My mri showed that I have a hemangioma at L5 I think it was. Could that have anything to do with this? Thanks again.

Really your cervical problem make your nerves more sensitive to the injected substance.. I dont know how long it will have effect on YOU, but it is very individual.
Hope it will not last more than 3-5 more days.
you can help youself with vitamin B complex (including B12)
