cancer?

okay, i'm 15 years old and i've been diagnosed with an 'ovarian mass'. the mas is 18cm by 13cm. bigger than a freaking grapefruit, i know. -.- i go in tomorrow for an appointment with an oncologist. it's been two weeks since i was last at the hospital, and it's the fastest they could get me in. isn't it bad to just wait two extra weeks when something that huge could be growing inside you? anyway... my doctor schedule the appointment because he said he was concerned with the fact that it was so large, and it must have grown in te past few months (i've been gaining a lot of wait in the last 5 or 6, so he's probably right). it's definitely a surgical matter, but i'm concerned with the who 'cancer' thing. i looked it up, and ovarian cancer isn't often caught until it's spread throughout a large portion of your body...yippie..i waited 6 months. but it also said that ovarian cancer is rare in young women. i don't know..just looking for some positive feedback. my dad should be bald, not me >.<

This discussion is related to Large Complex Ovarian Mass, elevated CA-125.

This is a terrible thing for anyone to deal with but , sadly, you have absolutely no choice !  Your doctor is doing the right thing by referring you to a gyn/oncologist....not because it is cancer, but because he/she is the most skilled person to perform your surgery !  He is definately doing what is best for you.
Waiting is really hard, but, you will be getting answers soon.  Until your surgery, and the biopsy of your mass you will not know if it is malignant or benign....however, 95% - 98% of all tumors are benign.....your odds are great !
Hang in there....post as often as you want to, and, please do keep us posted.  Where do you live, anyway?  What hospital or clinic are you going to?
Peace.

BREATHE ..... I can only imagine how scary this is for such a young person.  You will know much more soon.  The MD will run some tests and unfortunately, you will have to wait.  Try to think positive .. it will hopefully be a cyst ... annoying ... but a cyst.  It can be fixed.
