liver and thyriod

Hi ive a under active thyroid and take 250mg of thyroxine, and have been in hospital for 3 weeks over my liver in January. My biliruben was up to 250 and my afts (i think) were a 1000. Got checked for everything all came back clear they think it was antibiotics i had in December, but are not sure if it's autoimmune hepatitus even though upto now the blood results have come back negative and the biliruben has gone down and liver biopsy they are sitting on the fence over results. My biliruben last week was 30, but my A F Ts were going down to 500 then last visit was up 660. Im on steroids now for 5 weeks to see how it goes.
could i be using or eating something that is doing this to my liver or is it autoimmune hep. Thanks

Hi those weren't the name of the antibiotics they began with a C couldn't begin to spell it.
Yes I was tested for everything whilst I was in the hospital I do have chronic hepatitis which they think might be caused by the anti.
Didn't have any yellow or clay coloured bowel movements but urine was very dark which unusual for me because i'm a water drinker.
Thanks for your input
Take care

Hi Laura steriods are working well AFT (i think thats what it's called) has gone down to 81 ( it was 660). They have kept me on them for another four weeks then are going to reduce them, then it will be a waiting game to see if my blood goes up. Doc said it's looking less likely so fingers cross.
Thanks for asking Laura and take care

Just a thought...Was the antibiotic Bactrim by chance? A few antibiotics are quite horrible on the liver and, if it was already stressed from something else, it may have become inflamed and swollen (hepatitis) or may have briefly started to fail. Have you been checked for chronic Hepatitis C? It can be symptomless yet create all kinds of problems like thyroid problems, hypoglycemia, diabetes, and kidney problems. It can also affect memory and energy levels, as well as GI problems. Have you ever had light (like yellow or clay colored) bowel movements? This is an indicator your liver is stresses and bile isn't getting into your GI tract. So, yes, liver functions can influence thyroid functions in an indirect manner...~MM

The liver can become sluggish and not fight toxins off well when you ( your body) is left too hypothyroid.

Maintaining good liver function is important with this disease.

Hi and welcome. Sorry but I don't have any answers for you. This sounds like a question that only a qualified dr that works with the liver, etc can answer.
I do know that there is a lot of natural support out there for the liver that a lot of drs even recommend. One of them would be a liver detox that includes milk thistle in it. Or something that is labeled for liver support.
Everything we eat and consume affects our liver including meds. In fact a lot of hormones run through our liver for conversion etc as well.
