hiatus hernia/GERD/pvc's

Hi, I am 33 and fit and healthy.
from my late teens i have been suffering from heart flutters/thumping sensation in my chest, and feel it in my throat sometimes too).
i can go weeks without feeling it or can have several a day which is very unsettling, and in some cases causes me to have a panic attack!

I have had several ECG's and all came back normal, so I know its not my heart.

since reading other peoples comments on here I am now pretty sure that the cause of all this is due to a gastro problem.
I too suffer more pvc's after eating or if i have not eaten for a long time( so have excess stomach acid), and burping seems to releive the symptoms.
Therefore it seems to make perfect sense that this flutter is caused by pressure on the Vegus nerve.?

I have also noticed that if i lay down on my LEFT side at night I get them, but if i sleep elevated or on my right side I do not !

I am currently having councilling for my panic attacks, which are only triggered when I get this thumping/flutter in my chest. and I am waiting to see my GP about being tested for a hiatus hernia/GERD.

Im so glad to know that Im not the only one with this problem.
any advice?

This is my first post here, I just joined. :)

Wow, Tinker, your post sounds just like me. I have a hiatal hernia, have those darn PAC's that give me anxiety attacks, and when I eat, get sick to my tummy. All this has taken over my life.

I have had heart tests done, tests for my thyroid, test for liver function, all kinds of blood work, you name it, and they all come back fine.

I noticed also that when I lie down on my left side, I will be more prone to feeling the PAC's and such. Also, after eating or drinking a lot of water, if I slouch in a chair or bend over, I will get the heart "blip" and also acid reflux. Ugh, I hate these. Lots of my problems seem to be correlated with tummy problems, but again, all tests are good.

The PAC's are my worst enemy, and I am fed up with them, unfortunately, though, I am stuck with them and the hiatal hernia.

So, you are not alone.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

There is a lifestyle change list included in the health pages for this forum...see icon top right of this screen.

I too have a hiatal hernia and was told I should not have issues with it.Unfortunatly I do.

May I suggest that u also have ur thyroid checked...it can cause the heart palps u mention.

I hope u continue to share ur experiences with us and update us on ur progress.
