Effective treatment for nasal odor

If you entered "nasal odor" into Google, you may have found yourself here.  You are in luck.  Here is what the people on this forum and a few of their medical providers have figured out so far.  The odor, in most cases, seems to be caused by anaerobic bacteria thriving in your sinuses.  The infection may or may not cause congestion. which is why your excellent doctor may not be able to detect it, so forgive him or her if they seem to indicate that you are crazy.

A neti pot or Neilmed Sinus Rinse probably won't be effective.  That's because they are only effective in the lower sinuses--the maxillary and ethmoid--due to gravity.  The nasal odor bacteria seem mostly to thrive in the upper sinuses, the frontal and sphenoid.  Unfortunately, at this time, the most effective way to wash out the bacteria, which will cure the problem, is a Flip-Turn Sinus Flush.  It is risky, because ideally it is done by bending over in a hot shower, but it can also be done outside on soft ground, in private of course.

It sometimes takes many treatments to get rid of the odor, and you should continue for at least 3 days after the stink goes away to keep it from growing back.

Finally, there are some medical conditions not caused by infection that causes people to smell phantom smells.  I don't know much about those.

Can anyone help me?I have had the same problem for years now and it only seems to get worse each day.the terrible odor is always there no matter what medication I take and people sometimes scorn me for it.going out is a no, talking to people who are less than 10 feet away is a no, breathing when people are close is a no, standing or sitting close to others is a no.i could go on.ive tried antibiotics and home remedies but nothing even gives me an 1hr relief.starting college soon and God knows I'm frustrated.trying to stay positive although previous Research suggests that this problem is rare, not easily treated and may last for a lifetime(there are plenty ppl living with it surprisingly).did anyone who had it for years like myself ever actually CURE it or find something that helps at all?the doctors don't seem to be able to offer effective suggestions.please email me @ ***@**** so much

I have the very same problem. What I do is, I take soft tissue and pour Witch Hazel over it, lean forward and insert the witch hazel soaked tissue completely into my nostrils one at a time. Due this routine every morning and every night before bed. Twist and stroke in and out cleaning out any and everything from the nasal cavity. I also use a saline rinse daily. Post nasal drip is usually the reason for this embarrassing condition. Post nasal drip is necessary to line the nasal hair in order to catch particles and airborne spores from entering the body/lungs. Some of us have an excessive excretion and during sleep if this drip reaches the lungs it could cause a bronchial infection. So make sure not to allow this drip to build up! If in fact that is what is causing your issue. I hope this helps but unfortunately, it is not a cure for I am still searching for that myself.
Hi there, I have the same problem now since 2006. I got some relieve when I got surgery for septum and to enlarge my sinuses in 2013. The smell recently came back, and is now as a result of a dry nose. Old mucus get stuck and causes the stink. I now use Nozoil sesame spray and drink 2 table spoons apple cider vinegar daily. I learned to accept it, because other people have much bigger problems than a stink smell.

I have learned that they can do what, but nothing that they do can touch me. I just ignore the hell out of them.

I have that same problem. Except mine hasn't had pain yet. It does ooze pus from an open mass  on top of my tooth. So I need to get that fixed asap. I've been smelling it constantly though but I don't think it has been bad enough so that someone can smell it as well but death smell isn't what I smell yet. I need to fix my tooth quick. I'll try the MY Pure Myst gel and report my results in a year from 11/11/2015

my nasal odor and sinus and nasal congestion is only on the left side following years of a root canal on that same upper side of my mouth;  and they left the dead (from the root canal) tooth in my maxillary bone.

One day when the tooth finally had enough infection and pain came on necessitating immediate partial relief from an anti-inflammatory...well immediately my left side sinus began to drain and the smell of something dead in my sinus began...

A few days later the dentist removed the tooth and right away for 4 months and enormous amount of green phlegm came out of my left nostril in huge gobs almost like it was matted in gauze...it was ongoing for 4 months and every few hours I cow d"blow" out huge chunks...All that is gone a year later but the smell comes and goes...and so i have bought a My Pure Mist to get steam to upper sinus on the left...and will report back any results...My QUESTION is...has anyone used the MyPure Mist sinus inhaler...? What results... how often per day...how long per session? did you add any herbs or oils...?   Thanks.

What remedy worked for you, because I am so desperate to cure this problem.  No doctor or dentist is helping me find a solution.

Saw this remedy couple of years ago and it worked with just two applications. It was amazing. Now the rotten odor is back following a sinus infection and I am going to do it again. I was a skeptic the first time and tried it anyway. I am a skeptic no longer.

NASAL ODOR: I FOUND A CURE! at least for me!!!!!
Sorry for the wrong english, because I'm from Brazil and do not speak much english.
After six months looking for several doctors and trying everything I could heal myself taking ciprofloxacin 500 mg twice daily for 20 days and I used an antibacterial ointment in the nostrils. Remembering that you can not take the medicine with dairy products for at least 2 hours. Ideally, everything should be totally excluded from milk during these 20 days.
I'm no doctor and do not advise taking the drugs without medical consultation. But it worked for me.... I was desperate and had tried everything.
Two weeks ago I finished the medicine, I hope do not come back this evil smell !!!

Sorry I didn't see this sooner.  The fact is your sinuses are populated with various bacteria, but your mucus membranes and cilia get rid of them or keep them in check.  It's usually when you get a cold or other kind of acute infection is when everything gets clogged and the microbes take on a life of their own. The information about the anaerobic bacteria was provided by a poster, who got it from a research doctor who had the specific tests available, so I don't know particulars.

In most cases, once you wash out these microbes and the infected snot with a Sinus Flush, your body resumes to normal.  Like I've said, I had 5 years of the inability to breathe with my mouth closed, and I'm on my fourth straight year of turbo-clear sinuses, even with kids around.  I've had the same box of tissue for a year.

Hi friggy-- thanks for suggesting something.  Did your research say what kind of bacteria it is that get up in those upper sinuses?  Could it get there from the blood stream?  I try never to 'pick' my nose with my bare finger thereby introducing bacteria.  Could this bacteria be breathed in from contaminated air?  How is one to know if the shower head is free of bacteria?  Wouldn't a sanitary device with a quart of water be healthier to use. Could this be a fungal or mold type germ up in those sinuses as well?  Isn't the body suppose to destroy these germs, assuming one is in good health.... ?  Thanks for your help.
