Frontal meningioma

Hi All,

Yesterday I was told I have a small frontal meningioma. I need to follow up with my PCP and prob. a neorologist? I've been seeing more on the web re: meningiomas at the base of the scull. Can anyone tell me what to expect..... Do all meningiomas have to be removed?

Since you put your posting addressed to facebook, I'm not sure if you meant it for this thread, but in case you did, there is very little pain from gamma knife surgery.  They call it a bloodless surgery, though there may be a very small amount of blood, as in the case I mentioned, from the screws they use to hold the helmet on.

They put the helmet on so the head is absolutely still.  Then the gamma rays pass harmlessly through other brain tissues from many angles and focus there full power right on the tumor.  They are supposed to kill the DNA of the tumor, arresting any growth and causing shrinkage, though the tumor may not go all the way away.  It should not grow anymore.

My relative had hers done over eight years ago!  I believe she stayed one night in the hospital after the surgery.    Then they follow up with MRIs at certain intervals to watch it.

Hi. I'm new to this site so bear with me if I get things wrong. I'm 63 and doctors found a 12mm sphenoid wing meningioma during a routine scan following cancer treatment. I've got an MRI Friday and a follow-up appt November to see how much it's grown. I'm hoping it's not malignant and that I can have Gamma knife at King's hospital in London so I can get back to looking after my grandchildren. Your post was very reassuring and I thank you for that.

My mom has a meningioma.  You will want to get that treated before it grows too large.  I recommend gamma knife like she had or you might check into cyberknife.  See my recent posting on this topic to someone else for more info!

There have been a few people posting that have these. I hope they can pop in and give you some first-hand information.
Size and location are, in general, the factors that require removal - your doctor should give you the specifics. Do you have copies of the films and tests?
