immature teratoma grade 1

i had s surgery last april 17,2009 wherein my left ovary was removed due to twisted mature cystic teratoma. after a week, my histopath revealed that the cyst found in my left ovary was Immature Teratoma Grade 1. is this curable? do i need to undergo chemotheraphy, & what is the chance of re-occurrence? And also based on my transvaginal ultrasound my right ovary as well as my uterus is in good condition, does it mean that the cancer has not yet affected my other ovary?

Hi,

The information provided by you is insufficient to determine if you will benefit from adjuvant chemotherapy. We need stage, grade, and histopathology information. Please discuss with your doctor your exact stage of disease.

The accepted recommendations are as below:

Patients with pure immature teratoma of the ovary (stage IA, grade 1) have been shown in studies to have 5-year survivals higher than 90%. In this set of patients, there is no evidence to suggest that chemotherapy improves outcome. Patients with immature teratoma (stage IA, grade 2 and 3) have a higher relapse rate and postoperative chemotherapy using a combination of three drugs called the "BEP" regimen should be recommended.
