Hip pain/stiffness

Ladies - I am almost 34 weeks, and for the last few nights I have been having horrible hip pain.  My hips are sore and achy, but that's not the worst part.  Both of my hips feel out of place - kind of like I have a "catch" in them.  Know what I mean?  It is so painful.  I was wondering if anyone else was having this.  Also after I get up in the mornings and while I am at work - when i get up and move around my hip joints are so stiff.  Just wondering if this is normal.

I haven't updated this, but me too!  Mine is really bad during the night now and first thing in the morning.  After getting up and stirring around it subsides, so I think you are right its just lieing on our sides for so long.

I see this posting is couple days old, but I've been having hip pain at night also. This's been lasting for about month now. I don't really have it during the day, just at night. During the day it goes away in few hours after walking. I was thinking it has something to do with lieng on one side for long periods of time + higher than usual weight doesn't help

Hello there ladies, i have now reached 37 wks and 1 day. I spent the whole of yesterday in bed, because of the amount of pain that i was getting in my groin area, it felt like my little one was about to make its escape. But as Germanbaby wrote its normal, i needed to go to the bathroom but had to get my hubby to help me because the pain was so intense i thought i might just end up in a heap on the floor. I was even getting the pain each time i wanted to change the side i was sleeping on, it was as if the more my body was relaxed the harder it was for my lower body to do make the simplest of position changes. I have been told by my doctor that i can take some pain killers but seeing that i have managed so long without i have no intention on taking anything, well until i go into labour then i will probably have every drug going...... I wish you all the very best of luck!

thanks ladies!  i assumed it was a normal pregnancy thing, and since we are getting closer to our little ones' birthdays it makes sense that we would be getting uncomfortable.  I can't wait!

Yes I am feeling the same thing. I am 35+3 days and I have been feeling like this for almost a week. I am "waddling" more and the pain is slowly getting "worse". I read that this is normal. It usually starts 2-4 weeks before you go into labor but this can vary up to 6-8 weeks too. It is very comfortable turning over while sleeping and having the feeling that I have to go urinate all the time even after I just have gone to the bathroom :-) Right now I am just happy I am no longer breeched. I am hoping that swimming will help.

"As you get closer to your due date, the cartilage and ligaments that join your pelvic bones increasingly soften and relax, causing an expansion that allows your baby to pass through the birth canal more easily. These changes cause some pregnant women to waddle, says Carolyn Sampselle, a professor of nursing at the University of Michigan. Lightening, when your baby descends lower into your pelvis prior to birth, can also cause the telltale waddle. Some women experience lightening several weeks before their babies arrive.
