Left knee pain

Hello Doctor,
Four days ago I was cleaning my garage and was in a sqautting position and when I tried to get up I felt something in the right side of  my left knee sort of give-like something moved and it hurt slightly...as the day wore on the pain got worse and it was just on the right side of the knee. Now it is in the front and it hurts only when I am walking ..it really hurts and burns. I can sit without pain I can stand without pain,I can bend my leg without pain, I can do straight leg lifts without pain. It is just walking that causes the pain and burning. I have been using ice since I first injured it and have been taking ibuprofen and saw my family Doc today and she said it is mildly swollen and is sending me for x-ray tomorrow and then to see my Ortho Doc asap. Any Ideas as to what I mught have done???  Thanks ...my Doc just thinks it might be sparined ....Rick

Sounds like either a mild sprain of the MCL (medial collateral ligament) or less likely, a tron medial meniscus.  After an exam and Xrays your orthopedist may order an MRI to help make the correct diagnosis.

For an MCL sprain, bracing and physical therapy.  For a torn meniscus, arthroscopic surgery.

Thanks so much for the quick response. What do you think the course of action would be for the sprain or the torn meniscus???? Thanks  Rick
