8 Healthiest Foods for You and Your Baby

Lean Beef

Lean Beef

Lean beef is an excellent source of iron and also zinc. Iron is an essential mineral for your good health — and that of your developing baby. Though your body absorbs iron more efficiently during pregnancy, you’ll actually need to take in more than usual to avoid anemia, an iron deficiency that causes fatigue, among other symptoms. There are two types of iron: heme and non-heme. Heme is more easily absorbed and found only in animal products.

Serving idea: Try grilled sirloin on a salad or as kebabs. Just remember, don't eat raw or undercooked meat during pregnancy.
