Feeling self-conscious about your body or performance abilities may lead you to sweep sex under the rug. Anxiety over little things (like the way you smell or look) can have a negative affect on sexuality, said Seth Prosterman, Ph.D., a certified sex therapist and licensed marriage and family therapist. When you’re worried about whether or not you measure up in the bedroom, you’re too preoccupied to enjoy yourself.
An improved sense of self-image can help you feel more confident and adventurous during sex. Remember: feeling good about yourself starts with you. Make a commitment to work toward embracing your body. It’s important to focus on your positive attributes (knock down negative thoughts that pop into your head), and set realistic expectations for yourself (newsflash: most women don’t look like a supermodel in the bedroom!).
Instead of obsessing on your imperfections, focus on making yourself feel as sexy as possible. Gear up for a steamy bedroom session by turning on your favorite song, putting on your best outfit or spraying on your signature scent. Don't forget: sex is supposed to be fun!
