3/4 Community Health check up

Jan 27, 2009 - 0 comments

Yesterday we went to the community compulsary health check> I was going to go alone but glad I didn't as I probably wouldn't ahve even found the  place, gotten the stroller on a bus and after getting there would have had no clue as to what was going on or being said.

So what went on and what was said? First a little gathering talking about mental health and demands of the mother. Lot's of questions about my feelings as a mother on the questionaire. It seemed like they were trying to find out if anyone had post-partum -depression. THey never talked about ppd as a condition that people have and to get help if you have it. Instead they had this really indirect apporoach.  Very different from the US and other English speaking countries.

I was surprised that Lillia's weight was under 3% on the charts of this tracker which I've been tracking her weight she was just below the 10th percentile.

I've been advised to breast feed her for 20 min starting on the smaller right side and do 5 min twice on each side.
Then offer 100 ml's formula. If in the next hour she cries or is hungry.....don't breast feed give another bottle. And then at the next feeding breastfeed again.

Supposedly my breast's are tired and need to rest. And that's why I keep getting mastitis and have a low supply.
First time I've heard this theory. I'm going to try it though because I am tired and can't get much done around the house and maybe this will give me more time and a chance to pump more....and get a routine down for the kids and myself.

Supposedly when she reaches 7 kilos, she will have a stonger suck and if I keep up my supply til then by pumping and possibly increasing it with tea and fenugreek and some specific yoga exercises...well see if I can reduce the formula but I can't get to bent on that because she really needs to gain weight.

Going back for a checkup in march. Going back for TB vax. Need to ask about flu shot and other shots-where we can get them and how much??

She id supposed to drink 80 g's per feeding and she drank 40g's but it was a short feeding time so the LC said not to giver so much formula Yay!

she said give supplement every other time and only 20cc's rather than 50 or 60.

The pigeon brand bottle is working! after just a couple of feedings her suck is stronger. Now she seems to drink more from me.
