input on chloe please

Jan 25, 2014 - 17 comments

I need input ladies, the past few days Chloe has been so cranky, she's teething so I assumed it was just that. Well Thursday night she got a low fever, runny nose, cough, etc, and started pulling at her ears so I took her to her dr. She checked everything, said it was probably viral. Well since she was an infant she's had labial adhesions,  (her lady bits cover her pee hole if I don't use an estrogen cream, its common in baby girls because of diapers), at her last check up it looked wide open, so she told me it was ok to stop the cream. So i had her check it since it looked like it was closing up again, so I started the estrogen cream again. She said to start the cream again, that was good, and I said I'm worried because inside, her labias look red and shes screaming when i wipe her, she said it was fine, probably just a side effect of the cream to iritate it. Well last night it was bright red, and she's used this cream for months without a problem. I'm worried she has a vaginal infection of some sort, and am now worried the fever was from that. She doesn't seem to have a fever today, and I used some nystatin, a cream for yeast infections, on her last night and it seems to be less red. So my question is, anyone have a young daughter with a vaginal infections? Should I take her to the er still, just incase! I'm worried its a yeast, uti, maybe bacterial? I change her sooo often I don't know what's causing the irritation, and its just inside her labias, not like a diaper rash. No change in diapers or wipes either, help! :(

I don't have experience yet since Jewel is still baking away but I would ask them to do a culture on her so you know if there is an infection or not. Also, I realize she's used that cream for a while but there is always a chance of developing an allergic reaction to it. Those would be my concerns. I hope she gets to feeling better real soon!

K, I just want you to know I'm here and will be praying for her recovery. Sorry I have no input as I have no children but I can be compassionate in the situation. I can imagine it's probably scary because u don't know what's causing it. But I pray Dr finds answer soon and lil Miss. Chloe recovers soon.

If it's closing up maybe it could be the start of a UTI too?? I think a UA/ C&S and a culture swab would tell you for sure. All I know from working in a couple adult specialties is you don't want that to close up. The scar tissue can cause long term problems/pain issues. I hope it's nothing serious and it resolves quickly.

Could they do a culture on a baby though? I'm reading a lot of doctors use catheters, god I hope not!

A swab culture would just be rubbing the Q tip onto the skin that looks affected.  I would think that if you could find a way to bring in a little urine they could send that for C&S but I realize that may be difficult to obtain. That may be the reason they would do a cath, not sure? If they did a cath I would make sure they use a topical numbing cream or spray. I know you want to catch whatever is going on right away but maybe it will be clear that things are either resolving or getting worse by evening or tomorrow morning.

I really would like to wait til Monday if I can, just because I hateeee our er! They aren't helpful at all! I think I will wait til this evening and see. I'm thinking maybe yeast, just because it responded to the nystatin, yeast infection cream she got from a diaper rash, I'm just worried its a uti!

I wonder if you could put some stuff for yeast infection on it, like monistat or anti foot fungal creme on it??  Drake had a yeast type infection, and it kinda looked like you are discribing.

Gosh, I had boys so don't know.  I'm sorry she (and you) is going through this!!  I'd use the cream you mentioned for yeast that you saw some improvement with and if you hate your er, just try to see if you can manage until Monday.  I can't imagine what type of infection there would give her a fever and cold symptoms.  A UTI would be painful for her and she'd let you know as she was urinating verses when you are wiping, I'd imagine (guessing).  Hope it IS just irritation or yeast although neither is good and then I hope it gets diagnosed properly and cleared up.  I have found when I make a phone call on the line to my doctor after hours, you get some one on one discussion that can be really helpful.  My doctor practice doesn't mind unless you call at late hours or early hours.  So, if you make a call just to say what is going on since your appt. perhaps they can also talk to you about what the next step to do is.  Anyway, wishing you much luck

Almost all of the redness has  gone away with the yeast I fection cream, she has been cranky lately, but I'm wondering if its her cold and teething? Hoping the red stays away!

I would still take her to the doctor to see if it has cleared up all the way! You don't want it to become reoccuring especially her being so young. Thank god the yeast infection cream is working because that sounds painful :( She is probably extra cranky since she is teething and has a cold, but it's better to be safe than sorry!

Abby has been on the estrogen cream 2 or 3 times for the adhesion. She would get real red from it. I believe its a normal reaction from the cream. Try adding a little diaper cream. The cream wouldnt cause a yeast infection

She seems to be good now, chloe is on the cream, has been constant for a while now! Every time I take her off it she closes up again!
