I began using the Food Diary on medhelp.. It's a very nice tool, and while I don't forseee using it daily, it did reveal some interesting things about my diet.
I started using it because have been worrying that I wasn't getting enough protein in pregnancy. I've seen it recommended that we get at least 60 grams of protein, with some info suggesting the more the better due to a reduced chance of toxemia with 80-100 grams of protein.
It turns out I have been getting plenty of protein, as it is found in many things I did not expect, such as vegetables and whole grains. However, it looks like I am getting a few too many calories (I am estimating I need 2200 for my size and age plus the pregnancy). Who knew that the 2 ears of fresh corn I ate last night would cost me 600 of those calories!
So instead of worrying about eating more protein I will now be trying to cut back on calories from the less nutritious foods, like the Reese's peanut butter cup currently calling my name from the work candy stash.
