Preston's hearing test

Jun 04, 2014 - 7 comments

Preston had his hearing test this morning. It went pretty well. He was really good. Sat still through it all.

His hearing is normal for his age. The Dr said he's got some negative pressure behind his ear so the Dr wants to do another hearing test in 6 months to see if there's any change. The Dr said we need to keep an eye on the pressure because it can create fluid. If the fluid builds up too much and too often, it can result in having tubes put in. Definitely don't want to do that if it can be helped.

Ohhh I am sorry you and Preston have to go through that. I hope its not necessary for him to have them tubes placed in. I went through that, my daughter had several ear infections and by the time she was 10 month old they did it. never again she had an ear infection but its not a nice feeling seeing our babies go through that procedure. I hope everything goes well and that doesnt happen..

Glad he did well...makes things easier on both of you.  I understand, my oldest had tubes as well.  It was definitely more traumatic on mom and dad than it was on him.  I am sure you are grateful that your Dr is being proactive and that it is on the radar.  Yay Preston for being such a big boy at the Dr's! :)

My niece, Shelby, had to get tubes and because of all the pressure, she was much happier once they put them in. They also fell out on their own. I hope Preston does not need them but hopefully this will give you some peace of mind if he does! :-)

Yeah he's had 1 ear infection. And that was one of the first things the Dr asked was if he'd had any. Maybe it makes you more prone to fluid on the ears? I'm not sure.  I can't imagine it being very nice. Especially on smaller kids.

Definitely makes it easier. Even for the Dr. The Dr didn't have to struggle doing the test or while checking everything. Yeah I'm definitely glad he's being proactive. And even my family Dr being proactive making the referral to begin with. She could have left it and played the "wait and see" game.

That is a relief to know it makes a difference. Wouldn't want him to go through with that and then it not help.

Myringotmy with tubes is a common procedure. Let's hope he doesn't need it! I agree with J. It's worse on the parents then the child. FX for no tubes!!
