Stroke

On October 8th 2007 I woke up very dizzy and had uncontrollable bouts of throwing up.  My husbandf took me to the hospital and after ct scans and MRI I was told I had a stroke.  I fel blessed tho, I ahve no lasting affects accept bouts of being dizzy and headaches.

I am frustrated tho because my questions have not been answered.  Why did I have this.  My cholesteral is ok,  my arteries are ok.  The doctors don't have any answers.  Ok I do need to lose 20lbs well now 10 and my blood pressure was borderline which I am taking medication for.  I want to go back to work but these headaches are happening every day yet and I want to know why.

I'm scared.  I don't ant this to ever happen again but nobody can tell me why this happened in the first place.
I would like to know what tests could be done so I can have my answers.

I know my stroke could of been much worse and I am thankfull.  I can deal with the headaches and being dizzy.  I can't handle not knowing why it happened and if it will happen again.  I am doing everything that I can possble think of so it doesn't.  I want to be here for my chilldren and husband.
Please Help!!

Hi,
My father had a Wallenbergs Stroke it occurred because he had his Left Vertebral artery 100 % blocked.  This is a very serious stroke not to be taken lightly.  I dont want to scare you but my father died from complications from this stroke.  What happened was a part of his brain (the brain stem) was damaged that affected the neural regulation of respirations and he suffered respiratory arrest (which I think was caused by central sleep apnea) which caused significant brain damage that lead to his death.  I am a medical reseacher and I found a number of case reports of people suffering from central sleep apnea following this type of stroke. Now according to these articles central sleep apnea is rare but wouldnt you want to make sure that you dont suffer from sleep apnea ?  A simpe sleep study can help you answer this question.  I can email you these case reports so you can take them to your doctor.  My email address is ***@**** if you would like to email me.

Why you had this type of stroke is anybodies guess...my father didnt have high blood pressue or cholesterol.  His left vertebral artery was blocked due to atherosclerosis which is hardening of the arteries. Atherosclerosis occurs because of the build up of placque inside the blood vessels eventually these placques block (occlud) the blood vessel preventing blood to pass.  The tissue normally nurished by this now blocked vessel dies because of anoxia (no oxygen).  There is a test that can check for narrowing of the arteries but I cant think of the name of it.  If I can spread the word about the seriuosness about this stroke and help others then maybe my father didnt die in vain.
