Harrison's Labor Story

Sep 14, 2014 - 2 comments

I arrived at the hospital at 5 am. I was 2 cm dilated, 50% effaced and very soft.  By 6:10 am I was hooked up to pitocin and penicillin for my GBS. I had mild contractions from then until 12 pm when my doctor came and broke my water. At around 11:30 am I was given a half dose of fentanyl to take the edge off of the pain of my doctor breaking my water. When she broke my water I was still at a 2-3 cm, and fully effaced. I started having hard labor contractions and around 3:30 p.m. told the nurse I felt like I needed to push. I was also given 3 hourly full doses of the fentanyl to take the edge off of my contractions (thought I don't believe that it really worked since it kind of just made me nauseous and stopped my contractions for 10 minutes.) The nurse checked me and I was 9 cm. They called the doctor, and within 45 minutes, she was there and suited up and ready to go. I started pushing around 4:15 p.m. and my sweet little boy was born at 5:04 p.m. on Monday September 7, 2014. He was 7 pounds, 7.2 ounces and 19 inches long! I did have a 2nd degree tear in two places, but it was so worth it!
