No period in 4 months and losing my mind!!

Jun 06, 2008 - 6 comments

Im 23 years old and  my husband and I are wanting to start a family sometime in the next year.  I recently went off the pill at the end of January and i still have not had a menstrual cycle.  I wasnt too worried at first because i had heard it was normal to miss a couple of cycles after coming off the  pill but now its been 4 months and still nothing.  Ive always been very irregular sometimes going 2-3 months without a period before BC but i was only 16 when i went on it so i hoped maybe i had outgrown it...wishful thinking.  Now every month i experience some pretty intense hot flashes generally towards the last week of the month (im supposing when i would be having a cycle) and i sometimes get other symptoms of PMS but no bleeding.  I went to the OB/GYN last month and after a very brief consult she decided i needed to have some tests run.  She feels its either because my body weight is too low or my body is just lying dormant from being on the pill for 7 years.  Right now im on a high protein diet to try and gain some weight which for someone who is naturally really thin and has been the same weight since my Freshman year of High School its pretty hard but im determined, or she suggested some hormone pills like BC but obviously allowing me to ovulate.  I really, really do not like the thought of taking more hormones i already didnt like what the BC was doing to my body so i feel like im stuck.  I really hope i can start a cycle on my own but its really frustrating.   I just want to know that im not the only who is either going through this or if someone has gone through it and has some answers.  HELP!!

Hi!  I am feeling the same as you!  I have been on the pill for 11 years and wanted to get off of it this summer to start a family. I got off the pill in May--- no period, and now it's September.  I have been seeing my OBGYN and they have been helpful. I took a blood test, the dye test and been put on Provera to cause my period to come (which it did) but hasn't helped me with getting it again?  My husband is being tested next and then the next step is being put on Clomid which will cause me to ovulate. I feel like my eggs are dusty and need something done to wake them up!  I guess it really depends on how long you want to wait to see when you get your period naturally...otherwise you might want to consider being put on Clomid if you are eage to ovulate and get pregnant.  hope this helps!  Good luck!!

I feel the same way but only I'm a heavy person. The doctor comes up with this and that about weight. I was on birth control and stoped so that I can become pregnant and now I have no period in 4 months. I really want a child with my hubby!!!! What should I do?

I am in the same boat except I'm 22 been on the pill since I was 16 and DO NOT want to be pregnant! I havent had my period since June when I went off the pill and it is now October. I have taken 2 pregnancy tests and the both say negative, and I also get symptoms of pms once a month with no period. I want to go to the doctor but I am in between health insurance plans and work 10hrs. a day so I dont have time for a doctor.

Am I just not getting my period? Or should I be worried that im pregnant? I havent had any normal pregancy symptoms, I'm hoping that my BC just screwed up my system for now.

I'm worried also! I went on the pill when I was 16 because my periods were irregular and my skin was acting up but i went off the pill in May.  Im 17 and it is now October and i still haven't had my period!  I'm really worried that there is something wrong with me such as polycycstic ovarian syndrome and i should probably see a doctor but i'm scared! I also want to avoid going on the pill again if i can because it was causing me to put on a lot of weight and naturally i am pretty thin so that was really upsetting me! Can somene please tell me if this is normal to not have your period for this length of time (being 5 months now)?

I'm 15, and am also worrying of a similar problem. I have not had many periods since August, only 2. I was worried i was pregnant, so i took a test which came out negative. I have no signs of my period when it should be occurring. I have not talked to my mom or any doctors. Any advice or enlightenment is welcome.

I have had this same problem - I used to take Yasmin (for 1 and a half years), I came off it in March and its now nearly December and I haven't had a proper period, just a bit of spotting!
