I am 55 years old, and even as a teenager was diagnosed with thyroiditis. I had a scan back then, and was put on thyroid medication for 2 years in an attempt to suppress thyroid growth. Fast forward to age 47, when a large nodule was seen just looking at neck. Nodule was monitored, and I persuaded Dr. to look more closely although all labs for within normal range. He ordered scan in 2003, which showed a cold nodule. FNA said no cancer; labs all "normal." My doctor retired, and I went through 4 doctors until I found one who would watch the gland. (The doctors said it was in my head, it was menopause, it was stress; one doctor 'knew' I had lupus and would no longer take my calls after test showed no lupus.)
