My baby was hopitalized with RSV

Nov 22, 2009 - 3 comments

Pyper began to get sick on 11/15 with a high fever.  We took her to the doctors on the 16th and they said she had another ear infection and an upper respiratory infection and put her on antibiotics.  She threw up almost every morning after eating because of the mucus.  I called the Dr's office at least 3 times throughout the week because she had a fever everyday.  They just kept telling me her swine flu and flu cultures came back negative and she probably had a virus on top of the bacterial infection.  She just seemed to keep getting worse instead of better and on Saturday night she was struggling to breath and breathing really fast and making barking cough noises.  We took her to the ER Sunday morning and they tested her and took xrays.  She had RSV, Bronchiolitis and a partially collapsed lung.  Her pulse was like 200 and her oxygen level was in the lower 80's and should be at least a 92.  She was admitted and finally we were able to come home on the 25th.  She was very very sick and RSV is fatal.  Needless to say I just called and switched Dr's offices.

Poor baby! I hope that she's on the mend. RSV is more common in babies and toddlers than one thinks. Given the swine flu 'pandemic' (which I think is over-the-top), the Dr's are forgetting other viruses which can affect the population. Definately change doctor's, absolutely terrible. Hope everything is getting better. Poor Pyper.
