Finally an appointment

Mar 06, 2015 - 9 comments

After waiting since October to get in to see a spine specialist, I finally got an appointment!

Wednesday March 25.

This specialist is a spinal neurosurgeon. I'm a little confused why my neurosurgeon that is dealing with my brain tumour wants me to go to a spinal neurosurgeon. Is there something going on that they're not telling me? Does it have something to do with my brain tumour? Or maybe it's just cause he's one of the best in his field. I dunno!

I guess I'll find out in about 2 weeks time and hopefully get a plan in place. Pain management, drugs (I hope not), surgery (again I hope not) or do we just play the wait and see game

I am glad you finally got an appointment. Maybe now you can get somewhere.

I had a neurologist that I couldn't stand and sadly I saw him for 5 years without any real help. Last August I found a new one that my aunt sees and he has been a lifesaver. I am finally on meds that help versus meds that don't make a bit of difference.

I hope you get the answers you need and get a plan that will actually help.

Mrs- oh I like the neurologist I have. I've had him for about 4 years. Thorough with everything. Doesn't beat around the bush. I can't see him for this because he deals strictly with the brain. I read reviews about this new one I'm seeing for my spine and they were all good. So I hope I have the same experience.

Manda - No worries. It all helps

Happy Saturday, Shannon!

It's good to read you have the appointment you've been waiting for.  After just reading thru this journal thread, I think you answered your own questions.  Not all neurosurgeons specialize in the spine so the one you've been seeing for your brain tumor has wisely referred you to a neurosurgeon who does. (it's all about "areas of specialty")

Due to a major exacerbation of pain in my own back since December, I have been educating myself a lot these past few weeks about the differences between orthopedic back surgeons and neurosurgeons.   During this most recent journey of mine for answers, I found myself sorely disappointed in my original orthopedic back surgeon.  So this has led me to finding a neurosurgeon that does specialize in spinal issues and I intend to make an appointment with one as soon as I give my latest epidural some time to work.

Since you have checked out this new dr you are seeing in a few weeks and are pleased with all that you have easy in that, Shannon.  Plus, getting this referral from a dr that you respect and trust is worth it's weight in gold!  Have a good weekend, girl.  And let us know what transpires after your appointment, ok?
Much love,
