Apr 01, 2015 - 40 comments

Got my surgery for tubal ligation booked for Monday April 20th @ 10:30 am.

I could've done it before, but hubby has that week off as holidays, so he'll be able to help around the house

I had it Shannon because I was told by a geneticist I had 1 in 4 chance of having another child with heart defects. I sooo regret the decision every day as you never know how your life turns out . I met my DH when I was 40 and he has no children . We have tried DE IVF. It cuts me up that he will not have his own child . Although we are now adopting and very happy how we are  there has been a lot of tears and sadness to reach here. If you are 100% go for it xx

Lol K glad I'm not the only one! I don't know how the Duggars have done it! Lol

That's very true Manda. I'm glad you're able to adopt. You'll be giving a little one a wonderful family that may otherwise not get.

4/20 is only a few days away!! You can tell him he's getting a coin purse instead of you having the ligation if he doesn't start kissing your feet now!

Lol K you and me both!

Nope hollus we are done. 2 is a good number for us. I can't imagine getting up with a newborn when Preston still wakes up in the middle of the night. We've discussed it at length and it seems like the right decision for us. It's comfortable for us financially too. 3 would put a huge strain on finances with only 1 income. That wouldn't be fair to anyone

How common are tubal pregnancies..do u get same symptoms as normal pregnancies

1580318 tn?1550258081
by Shannon79, Apr 26, 2015
D143 here's some info I found about tubal ligation.

If a tubal ligation or implant fails and you become pregnant, you have an increased risk of having an ectopic pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancies can occur years after the tubal ligation and are most likely 3 or more years after the procedure.

Tubal ligation and tubal implants are not 100% effective at preventing pregnancy.

Tubal ligationThere is a slight risk of becoming pregnant after tubal ligation. This happens to about 5 out of 1,000 women after 1 year. After a total of 5 years following tubal ligation, about 13 out of 1,000 women will have become pregnant.1Pregnancy may occur if:The tubes grow back together or a new passage forms (recanalization) that allows an egg to be fertilized by sperm. Your doctor can discuss which method of ligation is more effective for preventing tubes from growing back together. The surgery was not done correctly. You were pregnant at the time of surgery.

And yes you would get all the same symptoms with an ectopic pregnancy as a regular pregnancy

Hope this helps

I'm feeling pretty good. The pain  wasn't near as bad as i thought it would be. I've had 2 c sections, so i was expecting pain like that. But the perc's could've helped with the pain management too haha

I'm 36 I have 4 kids. 3 by C-section. After my last daughter I opted to have my tubes tied. My youngest is now 9, and recently found out I'm pregnant. Not a viable pregnancy, no baby or sac in site of any ultrasound. These past 2 weeks were heart breaking with chemo injections to help expel the baby, D&C was uncesseful. With tubal ligation, babies sometimes end up in other places. If anyone does have a tubal ligation, always keep track of your cycles and the slight chance you think your pregnant go in right away...home pregnancy help but insist on the full work up.

I'm sorry to read that Scared. That's heartbreaking :-(

I still track my cycles. I've actually found that since having my tubal done, my cycles have gotten shorter. I used to have a 40+ day cycle. My last cycle was 35 days. And I think I'm on track for the same or shorter.

I did the research on having a tubal done. So I know there is a very slight chance of still getting pregnant. I have a friend who had her tubes tied, cut and burnt and still got pregnant. She went on to have a healthy pregnancy with a daughter who's now 6.

I wish you the best and sending my prayers

Thank you Shannon. It will be a welcome surprise. We're not trying to get pregnant, but if it's meant to be, it will be.

Lol K. I wanted hubby to get it done cause I've gone through 2 c sections. But 2 problems. 1) He's the breadwinner in our household. So if he doesn't work, we have no money. 2) If I waited for him to get it done, we'd still be waiting. He's a hmmm and haw'er. So I knew if I did it, it would get done

DH was supposed to get one after baby #2. Obviously since we had baby #3 that didn't happen. Baby #3 ended up a csection, so I had them tie my tubes while they were in there. Seems the only way to get things done is to do it yourself! lol

That's plan B heather... but he already had his consult and his procedure is Sept 3...so unless he chickens out we are good..  hahaha. Maybe if i do need an emergency C section (which I've never had) I'll do that too to be super safe

That's what I was told too K. I would be fine in a day or 2. Good thing I don't work or I would have been off for about a week. Just cause Dr's tell you that, doesn't make it so. That's text book. Good for your hubby doing it himself!

Heather I'm surprised the Dr didn't ask if I wanted it done at the same time as my last csection. When I had my first one, apparently the Dr asked my hubby if he should do it at the same time. Hubby said no cause he thought we may want more. Was 2 different Dr's, so maybe that was the difference.

Might not hurt K. Can never be too careful

No... he's asked around. .. pretty easy procedure for the guys. If i did it he'd need to take time off to help so him being the only on working it made more sense for him to do it its it's only a day healing (which other guys he works with even agreed to)

Oh okay. Less invasive for men then women I guess.

I actually went to my doctor about having my tubes tied in the event of a C-section with my second and third pregnancies. I signed paperwork around 7 months pregnant that in the event I ever needed a C-section, they had my permission to tie my tubes. Before we went in for the section with Xavier, I confirmed it with my doctor and then she asked me one final time while I was on the table if I was sure. At that point, I would have done the procedure myself if needed! lol

Only a few more months til my doctor will finally OK my tubal! DH is a chicken and SUCH a baby anyway, but I've read the rate of prostate cancer in men increases when they get "fixed" so I definitely do not want to take that chance, plus I'd rather deal with ME after surgery than DH, talk about baby lol!
