A Few Thoughts from the Ages

Jul 17, 2008 - 27 comments

A lesson that has been shared with me in the past few days.

In life, we must find creative and constructive ways to negotiate conflict.  The only conflict-free existence is death.  Forgiveness transcends painful memories and grievances and redirects this energy toward peaceful and creative coexistence. Nelson Mandela once said that not to forgive is "like drinking a glass of poison and waiting for your enemies to die".

"The weak can never forgive.  Forgiveness is that attribute of the strong"  ~Mahatma Gandi

Be quick in the race for forgiveness from your lord, and in the race for a garden wide as the heavens and the earth, prepared for the righteous - those who spend whether in prosperity or adversity, who restrain anger and who pardon all people.  For God loves those who do good.  ~Islam. Qu'uaran

Where there is forgiveness, there is God Himself.  ~Sikhism

The superior man tends to forgive wrongs and deals leniently with crimes.  ~Confucianism.

So, in retrospect - are you one of these superior people who are an instrument of God or do you tend to hit the so called "abuse button" in life as soon as something is said that you disagree with as only an immature self righteous pious prig would?

Better and more rewarding is God's reward to those who believe and put their trust in Him; who avoid gross sins and indecencies and, when angered, are willing to forgive.  Let evil be rewarded by like evil, but he who forgives and seeks reconciliation shall be rewarded by God.

This is wisdom!  Who among us can know the mind of God?

I certainly do not presume to I can tell you that!  That is why I listen to the teachings of all of the greatest teachers the world has ever known.................and do not show bigotry or hatred to the ones that are not of my religion. It appears to me that they all teach the words of Jesus - and imagine that!

1 Corinthians 9

27 But I chastise my body, and bring it into subjection: lest perhaps, when I have preached to others, I myself should become a castaway.

St Therese says;
Everything is grace.
Everything is the direct effect of our Father's love.
Everything is grace because everything is God's gift.
Whatever be the character of life or it's unexpected events-
to the heart that loves, all is well..

Mark 11

25 And when you shall stand to pray, forgive, if you have aught against any man; that your Father also, who is in heaven, may forgive you your sins.

Matthew 18

35 So also shall my heavenly Father do to you, if you forgive not every one his brother from your hearts.

Matthew 18:21-22

Then Peter went up to him and said, "Lord, how often must I forgive my
brother if he wrongs me? As often as seven times?   Jesus answered,
"Not seven, I tell you, but seventy seven times."

Hate and anger go against the very grain, of faith and Christ.

Deb- Thanks for posting what you did. It sums it all up.
I wish this forum would stay a health forum though and not a religious forum..religion is the most personal thing we have
why do people preach on a health forum. Whatever our religion might be it should be in the heart and soul and remain

All I ever see   is people being ripped apart here from difference of opinions. Politics and religion should not be a focal point
        on a Hep C forum .

        My opinion only obviously.

Thank you for getting it Charm.  It's sad that some people intimidate and use such harsh words when there is beauty in ALL of the religions (excepting of course something Satanic LOL).  Hatred and intolerance have no place in a society based on trying to HELP people and it is very upsetting but then from small minds come small things.
The day I tell someone that I am better than them for any reason at the day I know I've gone out of my blinking mind.

And we've had enough wars in here over alcohol "to drink or not to drink"..........we don't need politics or religion of any kind to help us out with that.  And for the record I am a born again Christian - but that's for my PERSONAL salvation and not for anybody else to have to contend with :)

A few quick excerpts from tomorrows journal..........

Simple Signs of Lying

The type of lie, and whether it is in keeping with the liar's character, dictates how apparent the signs of lying are. Occasionally they are extremely obvious, especially when the liar is feeling guilty.

Obvious signs include:

Over denial - Repeating protests of innocence.

Stuttering - Stumbling over words without natural fluency.

SOUND FAMILIAR ANYONE?????????????????????????????????????

I will "copy and paste" the rest tomorrow.

Good night, sleep tight!

Thanks for the post. I love the classical wisdom. Here's an excerpt from one of my favorites:

The quality of mercy is not strain'd,
It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven
Upon the place beneath. It is twice blest:
It blesseth him that gives and him that takes.

Best wishes,

Great post!  There is so much wrong in this world, and in our own little world, that its great to come to place that you can say what you feel, and be welcomed and cheered on and prayers sent your way.  It doesnt matter what or who you believe in.  Just believe! and believe that in helping one another we help ourselves.

looking forward to your continutation.

thank you nygirl, you helped me redirect myself.  I have been overconcentrating on TX and SX (and Xmas!) and forgotten the way I try to live my life.  The HCV is just a think I am coping with while I get on with it.

I pray for world peace and our poor planet everyday.

I love to sit on my back porch and just listen and watch the birdies and the amazing things my HP has put on earth for our enjoyment, such as the colours of nature, the changing of the seasons, heat lightening.

Isn't live grand?  Thanks for helping me find my positive place.

I was taught:   "Forgive................. but don't forget."

Had no instance yet where I regretted doing that.

IMHO - As in 12 Step programs, religion and politics should have no place in this forum since our focus is to get well and there should be no diversions from that.

Lord now this person is posting on my journal which is years old.
Just for the record I am very pro big pharma and have been CURED of hcv for over six years. People who believe vitamins will cure them well - they'd better pray and pray hard so it' nice to see Senioretta has religion - she's gonna need it it seems.

PS Anne this journal was originally made to point out that everyone has their own religion and each should be respected. It was a time of 'war' on the forum when religion was still allowed to be discussed, politics too. Man we had some knock down drag outs.......

Yes it is and folks journals are for whatever they want to write about, folks dont need to read them if they dont want to there are groups set aside for any topic that is allowed, part of health is having the freedom to be able to speak out but I doubt you will notice religion or politics on any of the forums .you may on the groups and journals but you dont have to go there ...
