Tough Year

Dec 07, 2015 - 7 comments

The bipolar meds & Nervous breakdown &ECT caused me to lose my memory of my Hospitalizations. Maybe that's a good thing. But for awhile I couldn't even remember my cats name it got so bad. I have to be ok. I must fight to stay out of hospital and keep my freedom. DonE leaves for China this Friday. I must stay on tract. Eat. Sleep. Shower. Brush teeth. Care for the cat & dog.

I have had a tough one too.  White knuckling the little bit of hope I have left is not paying off but I did manage to stay out of the hospital this year.  Maybe that was a good idea and maybe it wasn't.  Hope we have a better one next year and I am sorry about what you had to go through.

Hi CRSeaside. Have your neurotransmitters and hormones checked!
It could be a lot simpler than what most people think it is to deal with Bipolar, Nervous breakdown (incorrectly coined as such- it is mental breakdown!).
Look into high glutamate, low glutamate conversion to GABA, low GABA, dysregulated Dopamine (high on the manic phase, low in the depression phase), low serotonin, low nor-adrenaline.

In hormones, of particular importance would be cortisol and thyroid hormones.
High and low Cortisol, have both been associated with Bipolar, indicating the underlying biological and mental stress.
Low thyroid function-evern within lower normal lab ranges-may be a factor in Bipolar!

The problem is that most doctors do not investigate any of the above and you the patient is left alone to try to convince
them (often resulting in getting ignored, dismissed or even laughed at) to pursue this in any comprehensive manner.

Are you still in C.R. at present?

I hope you have a good winter and please hang in there.

Hi Niko!  It's side effects of the meds I'm on now that really upset all hormone balance. I've even started to run high blood pressure.  Something I've never had a problem with until now.
Yes. I know. You're right. I had a psychotic break. Actually a series of them.
I'm in Costa Rica till 1st week of Feb. it's our summer down here. I have a very special and amazing cat and dog to keep me company. I know the risk of isolation, so I've invited friends to visit.
Thank you for all of your help and suggestions.
Much Love. Maxy
