Test or not?

Mar 22, 2016 - 12 comments

So I was on Microgestin birth control the last 3 months, this past month (about a week and a half, two weeks ago), my period was due, and never came. I called my OB he said this can be normal with this birth control, I do NOT like the idea of not having a period, as great as it sounds I was reading horror stories about miscarrying afterwards due to an unstable uterine lining, DH and I are planning on trying soon anyway, so I stopped the pills. It's been about a week and a half, or two like I said, and still no AF, I tested when I originally missed my period and it was negative. I had EWCM about 5-6 days ago, so do you think maybe I O'ed and AF is on it's way, or should I retest?? It should have been positive when I originally missed AF, right?

It's hard to say.... You were on this BC long enough not to have a period. If it were me, I would test again to rule pregnancy out. I would think it would most likely be the that your body is trying to normalize its hormonal balance after stopping the BCP if you are using condoms like you had mentioned previously. Hope everything works out just as you would like :)

I like the VitaFusion gummi prenatal vitamins.

Oh! The prenatal I take have the methyl folate in them because my body doesn't process folate like most people. It's Neevo DHA and they are really expensive even getting them directly from a company called Brand Direct. Hopefully you don't need anything special like that though.

I tested, it was negative, but I'm doing excessive workouts and such so I wanted to make sure pregnancy wasn't a factor! I started First Response prenatals, it's also from the makers of VitaFusion. It has 800mg if folic acid, and 4,000IU of vitamin A, 50% beta-carotene. Is that too much vitamin A?? I googled and got mixed answers because I know too much vitamin A can cause birth defects, and I wanted the highest dose of folic acid because my SIL had a baby with spina bifida so severe she choose to terminate. DH and I are both nervous as far as birth defects and healthy development goes since that happened, I want to make sure I'm doing everything I can!

I'd ask your Dr about the vitamin A. You can add in extra folic acid with a stand alone rather than a multi vitamin.  I used a twice a day prescription prenatal.  Pregvit, I believe.

Thanks TTC, I talked with my doctor when I missed my period and told him we'll be TTC soon, and he said to just make sure I was taking at least 400mg of folic acid, and mine now is 800mg. Spina bifida doesn't run in the family, my SIL was a HUGE shock as she already has one very healthy daughter. I'm just being cautious I suppose!

I was told to take at least 1Mg of folic acid and to take it at least 3 months before TTC.  I took mine in a vitamin B combo and then added a multi until I got pg and then I switched to the pregvit which had 1.1Mg.

sorry I meant 800mcg, lol! not MG, I got an OTC prenatal with the most folic acid so I hope that's enough!

Yes I have lol! Starting to wonder with the AWFUL heartburn I've had lately, I have never had heartburn besides pregnant, but I'm also eating healthier so maybe it's just something I'm eating more of now! Thank you Hollus, hopefully soon we'll have a bfp but I don't want to rush it and have something go wrong, I'd like to be as healthy as possible before.
