WEEK 26: INTRODUCING DOG & BABY

May 21, 2010 - 3 comments

Hey all. So i'm almost into my 3rd trimester.. Woowww sccarrryyy lol. I hope everyone is doing well. Well, so far so good chandler is very calm! Lol. He moves more when i'm awake (please let this be my child's schedule after he's born lol). I'm showing more and more each week it no longer looks like fat lol. Anywho! I have a dog that i've had for 2 yrs now. I got her from stray rescue (if anyone is in need of a dog do not get one from a breeder, use them!) and she was actually in a home for 3 yrs before i got her but the family got rid of her. When i saw my puppy online it was love at first sight. It's been mostly just me and her for the past 2 yrs and she is sppoiilleedddd, lately i haven't been paying as much attention to her because i am tired a lot ofnthe times and there is not enough hrs in the day but the weekend is mainly our bonding time. Well, there will be a new addition in our lives and i'm not sure how she will take it. I don't think she will be all crazy and jealous but how do you introduce your newborn to your dog to evade any issues? I do not want to get rid of my dog and i know my parents will take her if she gets too rowdy but what would be a good way for me to make the transition now?

Hi, I saw this and wanted to say, that I have heard there is a CD specifically made for dogs, it has baby sounds on it and you play it like everyday so they get used to the baby sounds...I ve also heard that you should bring the baby's 1st blanket home from the hospital and give it to the dog so that it gets used to the scent...and then when you get home with the baby you slowly have to show the dog the baby ...
I think no matter how much you prepare your dog there will still be some jealousy...It took my friends dog like 6 months to realize this baby isnt going anywhere...the dog was never aggressive, but when she put the baby on the floor to play or to change her diaper the dog would bring over a toy and place it on the baby's head..lol it wanted to be played with..I think that you need to make sure you spend some time with the dog to when the baby comes..its kinda like having another kid..lol
Good Luck!

@ bluebaby: yeah I got a picture of her on my profile, only one so far.  I have more but I am too lazy to updload pictures lol.

@butterflybabies- Thanks for the advice.  I'll be on the lookout for the cd, do you know where i can purchase it or is it available online?  I realized having a dog was similar to having a slightly independent kid, lol.  I just don't want there to be any jealousy issues later on when it comes to the baby.
