words of wisdom

"a popular government, without popular information, or the means of acquiring it, is but a prologue to a farce or a tragedy ; perhaps both. Knowledge will forever govern ignorance: and a people who mean to be their own governors, must arm themselves with the power that knowledge gives."- James Madison -;

The lack of factual unadulterated news is a real problem now.  News has long since stopped being true news.  It is now a continuance stream of commentary.  Political, social, economics, ad infinitum.  You must dig and actively search to find out what's going on today.

Unfortunately we also have a population who know more about American Idol and the Maury Povich show than they do about American History.  Knowledge of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights is as foreign to most people as knowledge of Maury Povich and American Idol are to me.  I know it exists but not only do I not know any details of it nor do I want to know.

We have to stay alert and ever vigilant.  It is the duty of all American to continually question their government.  It's the duty of all voters to research the candidates and the issues.  Don't judge a candidate by his/her campaign promises.  Look at what they've done, voted for, said, et cetera.    If you don't know the Constitution, haven't read it for yourself, do so.  Read the Bill of Rights.  Don't depend on any one source for news.  Keep searching until you learn the truth.  Use newspapers, the internet, magazines and whatever else you can think of.  But for goodness sakes, don't remain in ignorant bliss.  I think this quote sums it up for me:

"With attention deficit democracy, I am trying to wake up people to how the combination of mass ignorance, fear mongering by the government, and lying politicians is putting our entire system of government to a death spiral."
James Bovard
