pain management

Jun 15, 2010 - 2 comments

It's been quite awhile since i've been to this site let alone write in this journal. I've been put on a lot of meds as I said before one being Neurontin or also known as GABAPENTIN. I am taking 600mg three times a day  and at first was very skeptical due to the nature of the med being used to help control seizures. From what the Doctor told me it helps with nerve pain. Well, the Doctor was right, most of the pinched nerve symptoms are relieved. Granted, it is only masking the pain, bit I have to do something until the swelling goes down enough for the Doctors to tell me how bad off I am and what are next step is. I am not a Doctor or even close and all my Doctors including my family Doctor are all on the same page and that is very rare, yes the right hand knows what the left hand is doing and I thank GOD each day for my wonderful medical team.

At this time, I am not free of pain but it's manageable and I can get myself dressed, take a shower, take my children out for lunch and ride in a car for at least 2 hours. I can't sit in a wood chair, plastic chair for no longer then 15 to 20 minutes. I don't have the quality life that I did just after my Eclipse Fusion and until I see Dr. Pettine again I don't know what my future holds. I do know as a fact, that the rear end collision that my son and I were involved in has made by the dics that were bad but not causing pain  herniated and will cause a lot of pain without management. We will see what the next step is at my next appointment with Doctor Pettine.

I can relate with your pain.  I have the same thing.  I already had 3 whiplashes when I was in a rear end collision last June.  My spine was already arthritic and deteriating when the accident happened. All of my low back disc are herniated.  My 92 year old mother spine is in better shape than mine, and she has no pains. Funny thing my last neck xray showed that a couple of bones in my neck had fused on their own. The doctor asked me if I had surgery on my neck.

Yep, we are in the same boat as far as our back are worse off then our grandparents. Wow, that is pretty interesting that your bones fused on their own. I am sure it can happen, look at your situation, but I have never heard of it. It's amazing what our bodies are capable of doing. I just wish there was a magic wand and tada, we are all better. But, until that day comes for those of us in chronic pain, disabled and can't work, due to our conditions, pills and more pills we take. I mean we can choose not to take them and there are those who don't, in my case I couldn't live without them.

Funny thing, I applied for disability as well as SSI and was denied by both. I have to laugh... Disability said I hadn't worked long enough to have put in what I was supposed to and for SSI they said my husband made too much money.
