Second ultrasound at 6 weeks

So this afternoon I went in for my second u/s and was told I would see the babies heartbeat. Well much to my surprise I actually saw and heard TWO!! I was thinking a week ago I might be pregnant with twins because of my high HCG levels and I thought I saw two sacs last time I had a u/s. Well they confirmed today that indeed I am! They each have there own sacs and are fraternal twins. One baby was conceived a week after I conceived the first. So baby #1 is 6 weeks along and baby #2 is 5 weeks. It was so amazing to see and hear their heartbeats and I love my beans so much already. I hope and pray that these guys stay strong as they would make me the happiest woman in the world. DF is in shock still but is super excited. We are sticking to our plans and not telling family/friends until after the first trimester. This is going to make it so much harder!!! Please babies stick as I would love to meet you in February. I love you both so much already.

I bet its a boy and a girl =)

That's what Eric wants or two boys. He is terrified that it will be two girls. He is such a mans man but he would melt at the sight of them I bet. I will take whatever I am lucky enough to get. As long as they are healthy I am happy!!!

That's fantastic!! Please excuse my ignorance but how does that happen - conceiving two at different times? Did you ovulate once and then ovulate again a week later?? I don't know much about twins obviously LOL.

I have no idea either!! I am googling right now to find out. The OB said the sperm can live up to 7 days and I guess a week later it also attached to my uterine lining. I'm not really sure though but I heard both of the heartbeats and am super excited!!

Sperm can live up to 7 days but I think an egg only lives about 24 hours or is it 36 - I can't remember exactly but it's not long. So even if you released the eggs at the same time the second one could only be fertilised a short time after the first. But like you said one could have implanted much later than the other. Anyway I'm so happy for you!!

I'm really not sure how it happened either. The u/s tech said she has never seen anything like it but there it was living proof - that one baby measured 6 weeks and the other 5 weeks. Thanks so much for all of the Congrats ladies!!! You all are so amazing and helped to be my rock this entire time. I couldnt have done it without you!! :)

yay!! THat's such great news. How crazy that they were a week apart. That just shows you that God had his hand in this!! Have a super healthy uneventful 9 months!!!!!!!! :) or I guess 8 months now :D

I think its one sperm and your egg splits (Identicle) Or 2 different sperm at the same time (non Identicle, and different sexes) CONGRATS!

God bless you. Such wonderful news. So patient you remained during this process. Please kindly pray for me also. I am under alot of mental and physical stress because of this. God is really gracious! Keep us posted!!
