34 week appointment UPDATE

Jun 18, 2010 - 8 comments

From my LMP I will be 34 weeks on Sunday.
Just had an appointment last wednesday and as soon as the doc measured me today she said my uterus has grown 2 weeks progress in one week... when the baby is measuring big to begin with.  A month ago he was 4.5 pounds... she is guessing he is around 6 pounds and I am not even 34 weeks yet.  I am still dialated to a 1cm... she will keep me on bedrest until about July 2nd then may let me up.  Next week I have another ultrasound to measure his size and my cervix exactly.  She told me if in fact he is 6 pounds I will have a week to go into labor on my own then she may want to induce me at 37 or 38 weeks... saying that if I went full term my baby will be 10+ pounds.  But, will know more next week.  OMG my baby is a giant...lol

LOL! I am so happy that your little man has decided to stay in this long! My doctor made a comment on the size of my baby too and I told her I grow monster babies and my water always breaks around 37-38 weeks... LOL! I am glad that you are going to get to be off of bed rest soon because I know you probably have a ton of things to do to get ready for him =) Keep us updated on how you are doing!

Awww...I'm glad he's growing so well. Just remember, the Dr. is guessing about his size. And a 10 lb. baby is nice and sturdy :)

Thanks ladies I am so excited that in a couple of weeks I will be trying to get him out instead of keep him in.  I always knew he would be huge since my husband and his brother weighed almost 11lbs when they were born.  My mother in law did all natural child birth back then and went home the same day! Is that crazy of what?  She says she even made dinner when she got home... and I don't think she is kidding LOL

hahahaha Oh Heather....I could not imagine giving birth to a 10 lb baby either. That must be scary!! Yet they look so incredibly cute. I bet your boy already looks adorable. I think I will choose induction at 39 weeks; but that's because I want to make sure my doctor performs the delivery. She might not be available in Aug so I would like to schedule my labor. Hopefully, my cervix will be ready at 39 weeks. If not I'll just have to wait until natural labor shows up.

But I'm glad your appt went well, and that you are soon to be taken off bed rest. You'll be able to do more with your nursery. Isn't that exciting?

Heather - My sons were 9-14 and 10-3. I LOVE having big babies. Very sturdy. But, they weren't my first so I'm sure that made a difference. My daughter was only 8lbs. They also slept through the night a lot sooner.

Kitty - Ask your Dr. about evening primrose oil. It helps soften the cervix.

Karen,

She did mention some type of medication she'd put me on if my cervix wasn't ready IF I wanted to, of course.  Think she was talking about that oil? And..do I have to be at the hospital to get my cervix ready or is this a simple thing I could do at home? Right now, my cervix is long closed.

PK- I am on pelvic rest (AKA torture..lol) because something is a males semen softens the cervix and makes it open, also orgasms make you contract, and so does nipple stimulation (lol... I am blushing even typing this).  Just have lots of sex once you are full term.  You can add the oil too then you should be ready to go :)

Karen- I am with you my neices and nephews were all big babies when they are born too.  They seemed so alert and much more sturdy.  I held my friends 6 pounder recently and she felt so fragile and frail compared to this little chubbies I am used too...lol.  I just would hate to have a c-section because he is too big to push out (I am on the small side) or try to push him out and have 3rd degree tears ouch!

Heather, the evening primrose oil takes awhile to have an effect. I took one capsule a day (by mouth) beginning at 36 weeks. Your Dr is probably talking about a suppository.
